H2-View News: North America’s ‘first’ hydrogen passenger train enters service in California
The new Stadler-made hybrid hydrogen fuel cell-battery train will operate on a nine-mile route between San Bernardino and Redlands University on up to 16 trips per day. San Bernardino County Transport Authority (SBCTA) marked the launch by offering free metro rides in the city on its first day of service. Manufactured in 2024, the train has undergone testing to ensure compliance with Metrolink systems and guidelines set by the Federal Railroad Administration. The train is based on Stadler’s Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train (FLIRT) design to offer up to 380 miles of range with a maximum speed of 79mph. [...]
H2-View News: DNV grants AiP for Hyundai’s ammonia dual-fuel vessel design
HD HMD highlighted that there is sufficient space earmarked on the vessel for the installation of an ammonia dual-fuel propulsion system and carbon capture equipment. The Hyundai Group subsidiary said the design offers “flexibility for integrating future technology solutions” to meet tightening environmental rules, including those set by the International Maritime Organisation and the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation. The dual-fuel vessel design was awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) by the independent organisation after it was presented during Gastech 2025 in Milan, Italy. The AiP confirms the feasibility of the design and ensures there are no significant technical obstacles hindering [...]
H2-View News: Green hydrogen projects cancelled in Austria and Germany amid economic headwinds
Austrian national power company Verbund and its chemicals partner LAT Nitrogen shelved plans for its 60MW production project in Linz. The partners said that despite receiving almost €50m in financial support through the Innovation Fund, they still had insufficient commitments of public backing to reach a final investment decision (FID). Meanwhile, German energy group Steag Iqony has cancelled its 53MW electrolyser plant in Voelklingen after no anchor customer was identified for the offtake. The project was expected to produce up to 8,700 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The HydroHub Fenne project was being developed alongside German electrolyser OEM Quest [...]
H2-View News: No clear cost advantage to installing Chinese electrolysers abroad, says IEA
The cost advantage of cheap Chinese electrolysers reduces significantly when systems are installed outside of the country, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). When manufactured and installed domestically, the electrolysers are much cheaper, ranging from $600-1,200/kW. But once transport, tariffs, local engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) costs are added, the real installed cost jumps to $1,500-2,400/kW. H2-View News: Clean hydrogen pipeline shrinks, but production set to grow fivefold by 2030: IEA
The Global Hydrogen Review 2025 reported that announced clean hydrogen production projects have shrunk from 49 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 37 mtpa, due to cancellations and delays. The IEA reiterated that FIDs “continue to trail well behind announcements.” However, projects that are already operational or at final investment decision (FID) are on track to deliver 4.2 Mtpa by 2030, lifting clean hydrogen from about 1% of global production today to around 4% by the end of the decade. “This low-emissions hydrogen growth to 2030 would resemble the fast expansions of other clean energy technologies seen in recent years, [...]
H2-View News: Dutch pilot shows oil and gas well tech can safely store hydrogen underground: whitepaper
The US oil and gas services firm referenced a multi-year Dutch pilot project, where an existing 1,290 metre gas well and a small leached salt cavern were used to run hydrogen storage tests in real-world conditions. In the whitepaper, hosted on h2-view.com, Halliburton said the programme unfolded in two phases: a mechanical integrity test using nitrogen and hydrogen; and a months-long storage run to verify the readiness of equipment and operations. The trial found standard completion components commonly used in oil, gas, and underground methane storage operated as intended in a pure hydrogen environment. Over 11 months of hydrogen exposure [...]
H2-View News: SEC drops fraud case against Nikola founder Trevor Milton
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has dismissed its case against former Nikola boss Trevor Milton, after he was pardoned by President Donald Trump. In 2021, the SEC accused Milton of fraud by lying to investors about Nikola’s electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, technology, production capabilities, and business progress. H2-View News: NH3 Clean Energy targets Port of Dampier for hydrogen-based ammonia hub
The land will be used for clean ammonia storage buffering and is located near the Port of Dampier Bulk Liquids Berth. NH2 said this would facilitate operational flexibility and expansion capability for the initiative. The commitment agreement, signed with Australia’s Pilbara Ports Authority, advances the collaboration taking place between the two companies regarding the handling, loading and export of clean ammonia. Under the agreement, NH3 and Pilbara Ports will negotiate a lease over the land, with the intent of agreeing and executing the deal no later than March 2027. By that time, Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) studies, input and [...]
H2-View News: Atome signs 10-year green hydrogen-based offtake deal with Yara ahead of FID
Under the binding deal, the global fertiliser firm will buy green calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) from the plant in Villeta for a minimum of 10 years, and marks the “last” commercial milestone before Atome takes final investment decision (FID). Atome has said it will work with Yara to “maximise” the market potential and “premium value proposition” of the product. Yara already sells low-carbon fertilisers into agricultural supply chains. Yara’s Executive Vice-President Americas, Chrystel Monthean, said the green CAN supply would strengthen the firm’s portfolio and allow it to respond better to demand. H2-View News: Goldwind to build $2.7bn green hydrogen and derivatives project in China
According to reports, the project will integrate 1.2GW of electrolysis capacity with 3GW of wind power to produce 600,000 tonnes of methanol and 400,000 tonnes of ammonia per year. Goldwind’s board approved the Bayannur project on Wednesday (September 10). If realised, it would be the world’s first commercial-scale project to integrate wind-to-hydrogen-to-methanol and ammonia. H2 View understands the plans will be financed through Goldwind’s own capital and debt, without outside equity partners. By leveraging state subsidies alongside its internal resources, the company is betting on securing a profitable and competitive position in China’s fast-growing hydrogen and derivatives market. That state-backed [...]
