H2-View News: H2Accelerate pushes for equal treatment of hydrogen ICEs in EU policy
Hydrogen truck lobbyist H2Accelerate is calling for European policymakers to treat hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles the same as fuel cell and electric alternatives. In a new whitepaper, the group made up of OEMs, gas suppliers, and oil and gas majors said hydrogen ICE vehicles had been “excluded” from incentivising mechanisms, despite their potential to cut emissions and manufacturing costs. H2-View News: Japan approves first two projects under $20bn hydrogen CfD scheme
Both projects are recognised as low-carbon hydrogen supply business plans and are set to receive subsidies under the Hydrogen Society Promotion Act. The first project, led by Toyota Tsusho, Eurus Energy, Iwatani, and Aichi Steel, is expected to produce 1,600 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Electrolysis powered by onshore wind will be used to support Aichi’s special steel manufacturing. Meanwhile, the second Resonac-Nippon Shokubai partnership will gasify waste plastics and textiles at Resonac’s Kawasaki plant to produce hydrogen for feedstock in low-carbon ammonia production. A 30–40MW natural gas and hydrogen-fuelled unit will also be installed to cut the site’s [...]
H2-View News: Chilean utility inaugurates electrolyser to replace grey hydrogen in power plant cooling
Installed at its 368MW Nehuenco thermoelectric complex, which supplies over half a million homes, the electrolyser is powered by an off-grid power system to provide hydrogen for cooling in the plant’s generators. Representing a $1.6m investment, the facility includes a 100kW solar farm with batteries, the electrolyser, and storage tanks. Hydrogen is used in large power plant generators as a cooling gas because of its high thermal conductivity and low density, which efficiently removes heat from components, thereby reducing energy losses compared to air. Colbún has not disclosed the new installation’s production capacity, but said the installation would reduce up [...]
H2-View News: Kingspan explores hydrogen-based steel supply from Thailand with Meranti
The material will be made using scrap and hydrogen-based hot briquetted iron (HBI) produced at Meranti’s Oman facility, processed through electric arc furnaces (EAFs) in Thailand. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Kingspan aims to move closer to its goal of using low-carbon steel across its manufacturing operations. The Irish multinational manufactures high-performance insulation and building envelope solutions. Located on Thailand’s east coast, Meranti’s green steel plant is “on track” to break ground at the end of 2026, ahead of commissioning in 2029. The site will use scrap and hydrogen-based HBI from Oman as feedstock, processed in EAFs powered increasingly [...]
H2-View News: Inocel deploys hydrogen-powered generator at Scottish golf championship
The Gen-Z units, which operate from a few kVA to several MW, replaced the diesel generators used at the event to power services such as catering and the media centre. “The first collaboration with Inocel represents an important step toward integrating hydrogen-based power solutions into tournament operations,” explained Roger Kelly, Chief Press Officer for the golf competition. © Inocel Inocel will capitalise on real-time monitoring of power quality, efficiency, thermal management, and load variations under operational conditions, while integrating with the site’s temporary power infrastructure. “The insights gathered from this event are reinforcing Inocel’s strategy for scaling deployments across event [...]
H2-View News: GHMA: European hydrogen mobility hinges on scaling fast, decarbonising later
Europe’s action on hydrogen mobility over the next five years will decide whether the continent remains competitive in zero-emission transport or cedes to faster-moving Asian markets. That was the message from Air Liquide’s Vice-President of Hydrogen Energy World Business Line, Erwin Penfornis, when he spoke to H2 View on behalf of the newly formed Global Hydrogen Mobility Alliance (GHMA). H2-View News: Tyczka Hydrogen expands into Austria with MPreis Hydrogen acquisition
The German hydrogen producer purchased MPreis Hydrogen for an undisclosed amount, which will see its whole team transferred over to Tyczka. The Völs site, which was originally established by the food retailer, features a Sunfire alkaline electrolyser, a 350-bar refuelling station, and a trailer filling station, designed to serve the company’s logistics fleet and local bakery operations. Tyczka intends to continue supplying MPreis while further developing the site to strengthen cross-border hydrogen mobility. Mpreis powered Austria’s first hydrogen truck via its Völs facility, according to the board member, David Mölk. The deal expands Tyczka’s footprint beyond Germany and into Austria. [...]
H2-View News: Woodside nears completion of Texas ammonia plant, CCS connection due in 2026
The Australian oil and gas firm said in its Q3 results Train 1 of its Beaumont New Ammonia Project was 97% complete, with key systems already operational. This puts it on track to commence unabated ammonia production before the end of 2025, said CEO Meg O’Neill The plant will use autothermal reforming to split natural gas into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Built by Linde, the hydrogen plant will be equipped with carbon capture technology. From 2026, the plant is expected to be connected to ExxonMobil’s carbon capture and storage facility, which Woodside said could reduce the plant’s CO2 emissions by [...]
