The pair were awarded $2m from the state to develop trailers equipped with cryo-compressed storage technologies to improve distribution economics. The systems will be aimed at supporting hydrogen deliveries for small- to mid-sized warehouse and distribution centre customers in New York. Plug has long been both a fuel cell technology and hydrogen supplier for warehouse logistics applications, having deployed fuel cell forklifts with the likes of Amazon and Walmart. H2-View News: Reynolds Logistics invests £3m in Luxfer MEGCs for UK HyHaul project
The bulk logistics and fuel distribution firm said Luxfer’s 40-foot containers will be “crucial” in transporting compressed hydrogen safely for the initiative. Last month, the Protium Green subsidiary HyHaul Mobility committed a £14m ($18.7m) investment to develop three hydrogen refuelling stations along the M4, supporting the deployment of up to 30 hydrogen fuel cell trucks. The US industrial gas firm delivered more than 50 trailer loads of liquid hydrogen to the 90-foot-tall sphere at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. High-purity hydrogen is used in process gas in semiconductor production, and until now, Infineon has relied on natural gas-based hydrogen, which was delivered by truck from Germany.
