H2-View News: Europe will need Chinese green ammonia for some time, says Envision’s Yu
The cost of green ammonia produced in China is coming down, driven by flagship projects such as Envision Energy’s 320,000 tonnes-per-year green hydrogen and ammonia facility near Chefing City, with the first exports now hitting the market. The implications of this shifting dynamic were explored in a panel session at Wood Mackenzie’s Hydrogen Conference 2025 in London last week, with Frunk Yu, Senior Vice-President of Envision Energy, among the speakers. H2-View News: H2Med confirms BarMar route feasibility, sets 2032 start date
Connecting Barcelona, Spain, with Marseille, France, the subsea pipeline is part of the wider H2Med pipeline network. The operators claimed surveys carried out by independent experts found no major obstacles, allowing the project to advance to its next phase. The H2Med project partners, which include Enagás, NaTran, OGE, REN, and Teréga, confirmed that BarMar is now scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2032, two years later than previously planned. In a press statement, H2Med said, “The study found no major physical constraints along the routes, and all identified infrastructure crossings are considered feasible. “In addition, seabed conditions and terrain do [...]
H2-View News: Why Plug Power is suspending hydrogen projects backed by a US government loan
Plug Power said it had suspended all work on projects supported by a $1.66bn US Department of Energy (DOE) loan guarantee during its Q3 results, signalling a step back from its capital-intensive hydrogen production build-out. The loan guarantee, secured in the final days of the Biden administration, was set to allow Plug to build up to six green hydrogen plants across the US, as it looked to build up supply for its material handling customers. However, outgoing CEO Andy Marsh linked the pause to a long-term grey hydrogen supply agreement with a “leading industrial gas company” and a broader reassessment [...]
H2-View News: H2IA calls on OEMs to accelerate hydrogen vehicle deployment
Six European hydrogen refuelling operators, including Hydri, Teal Mobility, Fountain Fuel, H2 Mobility, Virya Energy, and HYmpulsion, have formed the Hydrogen Infrastructure Alliance (H2IA). The alliance argued that infrastructure development must lead to give truck and van manufacturers the confidence to scale up production. However, the H2IA’s statement added, “Larger volumes of vehicles and a variety of models available, in turn, lead to a quicker growth of the refuelling network – and to a lower cost for end-users, both for vehicles and hydrogen fuel.” Collectively, the members currently run 92 hydrogen stations throughout Sweden, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. H2-View News: Shell inks PPAs for 100MW green hydrogen project, but RFNBO eligibility unclear
Shell has signed two PPAs for more than 280MW of renewable electricity to supply its 100MW green hydrogen refinery project in Germany, but it is unclear whether the project will meet the EU’s strict eligibility rules. The oil and gas major will offtake around 110MW from Northland Power and RWE’s Nordsee One joint venture’s 332MW wind farm under a five-year agreement. H2-View News: Hydrogen to drive ‘meaningful’ platinum use, but bottlenecks lie with other PGMs and clean power
Hydrogen is expected to become a major platinum customer just as the global PGM system is expected to enter a structural deficit – yet the real constraint isn’t platinum itself. That’s according to Ed Sterck, Director of Research at the World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC), who spoke to H2 View as the organisation released its Q3 market report. H2-View News: Atome’s green hydrogen fertiliser project gains $200m debt boost as FID nears
The IDB Invest package comprises senior debt, blended finance, and a letter-of-credit-backed reserve facility. The funding will form a critical part of the $630m Villeta project, which will use green hydrogen to produce around 260,000 tonnes of green calcium ammonium nitrate per year. Fertiliser major Yara has already agreed to offtake the plant’s total output under a 10-year deal. The IDB Invest package is conditional only on the finalisation and execution of agreed debt and project documentation, as well as the closing of the project’s equity package at financial close. Last month Atome secured up to $100m in debt and [...]
H2-View News: Raven awarded final approval for delayed waste-to-hydrogen plant
Located at West Contra Costa Sanitary Landfill in Richmond, Raven will process up to 99 tonnes of waste per day through its steam reforming technology, which would also help California avoid up to 7,200 tonnes per year of landfill CO2 emissions. The US-based energy firm will now complete final engineering revisions required by the permit conditions and prepare building permit packages. Raven anticipates the start of construction in 2026. The final Air Permit and Authority to Construct (ATC) from the Bay Area Air District (BAAD) comes over two years after Raven was approved for its California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) [...]
H2-View News: Sky trials hybrid hydrogen fuel cell battery system for film and TV
The off-grid generator uses green hydrogen in a third-party fuel cell to generate power, which is stored in a sodium battery to provide electricity when needed. Developed by Sky engineers, the unit is now on trial at its Elstree studios near London to assess its potential as it looks to clean up TV production. It has not disclosed the system’s power output. Citing the screen industry environmental group Albert, Sky said around 15% of emissions from high-budget productions come from burning fossil fuels in mobile power use. “This new technology is a brilliant example of how innovation and sustainability can [...]
H2-View News: €8/kg green hydrogen deal announced for hylane’s fuel cell truck fleet
Due to the contractually guaranteed purchase volumes agreed by hylane, customers are offered reduced prices for green hydrogen at facilities in Düsseldorf and Rhine-Neckar. H2 Mobility can supply fuel at €8/kg because the stations involved in the deal are large, high-utilisation sites located along major freight corridors; its Düsseldorf station has a capacity of up to five tonnes per day. Hydrogen at public refuelling stations in Germany typically costs between €10–€15/kg, but €8/kg brings fuel cell trucks closer to diesel parity. © hylane The offer, however, applies only to hylane customers and only at two regional clusters, meaning the reduced [...]
