H2-View News: GeoPura demonstrates hydrogen power units to UK military at RAF Waddington
The event took place in a temporary hangar set up to mimic a deployed airbase with no access to normal electricity. GeoPura’s units were used to power operations without the use of diesel generators or local grids. A Red Arrows Hawk jet was also displayed at the event to highlight the RAF’s broader push to test cleaner energy and fuel technologies. Military leaders, the Ministry of Defence (MOD), and industry partners all attended RAF Waddington for the demonstration. RAF representatives stated that they will explore ways to enhance resilience while reducing environmental impact. Group Captain Leanne Warner claimed the presence [...]
H2-View News: Balfour Beatty and ICL adopt hydrogen-based engine cleaning technology
While the Engine Carbon Clean (ECC) system doesn’t power the engine with hydrogen, it uses a small device that creates oxyhydrogen gas from water and feeds it into the air intake while the engine runs. This helps remove built-up carbon deposits inside the engine to improve efficiency. After successful trials, the two companies have committed to using Advanced Hydrogen Technologies’ (AHT) product across their operations. Infrastructure firm Balfour tested the system on rail maintenance equipment and reported nearly a 16% emissions reduction. It now plans to use ECC across its tamper fleet. Meanwhile, ICL tested it on trucks and saw [...]
H2-View News: MHI demonstrates steam-heated ammonia cracking process in Japan
The trial at MHI’s Nagasaki District Research & Innovation Center was conducted with chemicals producer Nippon Shokubai and power utility Hokkaido Electric Power Company to demonstrate the novel cracking technology. Unlike traditional systems that use heat from burner combustion to force the reaction, MHI claims its system uses steam to lower reaction temperatures and potentially reduce operating costs. Additionally, without the use of a burner, the Japanese industrial major believes the system could be miniaturised, meaning it could be more easily installed at ports to support hydrogen imports. The project has been supported by Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Development [...]
H2-View News: Schroders Greencoat acquires stake in UK hydrogen developer Meld Energy
The British firm’s main project is the Saltend Green Hydrogen Hub in Hull – a 100MW hydrogen plant worth £250m ($332m). The East Riding of Yorkshire Council approved the hub last year. Meld Energy said Schroders’ involvement will help its Saltend site move towards construction The investment builds on Schroders Greencoat’s portfolio of more than 300MW of green hydrogen projects currently in development. The investment house said it can offer the expertise needed to help Meld scale major projects in strategic locations. It already has 55MW of other projects backed by the UK government under the first Hydrogen Allocation Round [...]
H2-View News: Air Products eyes higher returns on Louisiana blue hydrogen project thanks to 45Q tax credits
Air Products is signing off 2025 on a positive note after announcing an imminent deal with ammonia and fertiliser giant Yara for its troubled Louisiana blue hydrogen project. One key element is the 45Q carbon capture tax credits, which avoided the clean energy funding cull from the US government. H2-View News: INA selects contractors for 10MW green hydrogen project in Croatia
Located at its Rijeka refinery, the project will include a 10MW electrolyser plant provided by Ohmium that will be powered by an 11MW solar farm. INA expects to produce 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, replacing grey hydrogen at the refinery and supplying emerging transport markets. The first contract, worth €22.5m ($26.2m), was awarded to a Končar and Siemens Energy consortium to build the hydrogen production and distribution facilities. Meanwhile, Končar alone was awarded almost €11m ($12.8 m) to build the solar plant. The project has secured up to €15m ($17.5m) in grants under the EU-backed National Recovery and [...]
H2-View News: Electric Hydrogen eyes Latin America expansion with new regional head
Maria Gabriela da Rocha Oliveira was announced as Country Manager, with the remit of leading the firm’s commercial and partnership strategies across Brazil and the wider region. Maria Gabriela da Rocha Oliveira © Electric Hydrogen Electric Hydrogen said its entry into Brazil came at a “pivotal” moment, with the country finalising its legal hydrogen framework and incentives to bolster production and use. It also claims its factory-made, large-scale electrolyser plants are “uniquely suited” to Latin America, with plans to partner with local project developers focused on green fertilisers, e-fuels, and heavy industry decarbonisation. “The combination of abundant renewable energy and [...]
H2-View News: Nikkiso contracted to limit boil-off at California hydrogen bus station
Clean Energy Fuels Corp contracted Nikkiso to supply the required pumps and vaporisers, design components, a boil-off gas compressor, and a liquid hydrogen offload pump designed to mitigate boil-off gas. While liquid hydrogen could reduce hydrogen station delivery costs, high boil-off rates can undermine economics. A Taylor Wharton representative previously warned that boil-off losses ranging from 10% to 50% threaten hydrogen’s commercial case. However, Mike Mackey, President of Fuelling Solutions at Nikkiso CE&IG, insisted the company is “one of the first and few with the cryogenics expertise to manage the volume of liquid hydrogen needed to power full fleets of [...]
H2-View News: Topsoe wins solid oxide FEED contract for CNF’s e-SAF plant
The Danish technology firm signed a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) agreement based on its solid oxide electrolysers. 120MW of renewable energy capacity will power Topsoe’s systems. Hydrogen produced at the site in Workington will then be turned into 25,000 tonnes of e-SAF per year. Backed with £6m by the UK government through its Advanced Fuels Fund, Project Starling is currently in its engineering design phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2028, followed by the first operations in 2031. Both decisions depend on a final investment decision (FID) from CNF. However, once the plant is running, it could cut [...]
H2-View News: Yara green ammonia deal ‘eliminates’ Air Products’ Neom offtake volume risk: CEO
Yara and Air Products’ potential deal, which would see the fertiliser firm sell green ammonia from the 2.2GW Neom green hydrogen plant, will eliminate Air Products’ volume risk associated with its sole offtaker role. That was the message from CEO Eduardo Menezes to investors in a quick-response teleconference to the industrial gas major’s announcement earlier on Monday (8 December). Under the deal, which was said to be “advanced”, the pair are “anticipating” entering a marketing and distribution agreement that would see Yara offtake green ammonia from the Saudi mega project.
