H2-View News: Volvo launches road trials for hydrogen engine trucks
The trucks will be equipped with fuel system technology developed by its Cespira joint venture (JV) with Canadian-based Westport Fuel Systems, which allows hydrogen to be used as a fuel in adapted diesel engines. Volvo has not confirmed how many trucks are part of the trial, but has said they will be fuelled by green hydrogen. The HPDI technology uses a small amount of diesel as ignition fuel to enable compression ignition before hydrogen is added. A version of the system using LNG and bioLNG is already used in over 10,000 Volvo trucks. It’s not the first time the technology [...]
H2-View News: China pulls ahead as APAC hydrogen projects stall, says EIC report
The energy trade association’s report, which tracks 221 projects across the region, said just 6.46GW of 56.35GW worth of planned green hydrogen facilities are currently under construction. In the three APAC nations with the largest project pipelines – Australia, India, and South Korea – less than 13% of projects have reached final investment decision (FID). Just eight of Australia’s 63 announced projects have passed FID; in India, only eight from 60; and just three of South Korea’s 27 projects. The report also claims that APAC contract awards halved to 27 in 2025, from 54 the previous year. It said this [...]
H2-View News: Battolyser, VDL Hydrogen merge into Alquion to scale flexible alkaline tech
First announced in July 2025, the merger has combined all activities and over 50 employees as the new business looks to commercialise an electrolyser system with internal electricity storage capacity. Financial details of the merger have not been revealed. VDL Hydrogen’s parent company, industrial manufacturing firm VDL Groep, will assemble the stacks on behalf of Alquion. Former Battolyser boss Mattijs Slee has taken the CEO role at the new company. Alquion expects to make an investment decision for a 0.5MW demonstration unit at an unnamed “industrial customer site” this May. It intends to build systems 10MW to 15MW in size, [...]
H2-View News: Ground surveys start for 70km Dutch hydrogen and CO2 network
Survey services firm Furgo and engineering consultancy Sweco started soil investigations for the 70km Delta Rhine Corridor (DRC) West that will connect industrial areas in Rotterdam, Moerdijk, and Boxtel. Developed by Dutch gas network operator Gasunie, DRC West will transport hydrogen produced or imported into the Port of Rotterdam to end-users in the industrial regions. CO2 captured from industrial sites will be carried to offshore storage sites in the North Sea. Furgo is performing group tests, mechanical drilling, and installing monitoring wells along the route to establish subsurface conditions. It’s also carrying out geographical surveys to map the Hollands Diep [...]
H2-View News: Five EU member states push Brussels to delay key RFNBO rules
Ministers from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain said Brussels should bring forward its review of the renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) delegated act and finalise it in 2026 – two years earlier than planned. The intervention reflects growing concern that the framework risks delaying investment and scaling of Europe’s hydrogen sector. “A timely, efficient, and targeted revision of the delegated act is essential to achieve the EU’s climate and industrial ambitions,” the ministers said. The EU adopted its RFNBO rules in 2023, setting the ground rules for green hydrogen production under renewable targets. However, they have faced [...]
H2-View News: Hyundai E&C to develop liquid hydrogen storage in South Korean-backed project
Under the 45-month project ending December 2029, the South Korean conglomerate will design, construct, and demonstrate large-capacity storage tanks to support future LH2 imports. Beginning with demonstration tanks of 200m3, South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) hopes the project could support upscaling to tanks up to 50,000m3 in capacity. The flat-bottomed, cylindrical, large-capacity storage systems will support storage, transfer, and unloading. According to Hyundai E&C, the project could help MOLIT design standards focused on safety and reducing LH2 boil-off gas. The government intends to use findings to inform the construction of liquid hydrogen terminals and the scale-up [...]
H2-View News: Linde to lead Australian blue ammonia project design, explores plant-operating role
NH3 Clean Energy, previously Hexagon Energy Materials, said Linde’s engineering arm would progress engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) plans for its 650,000-tonne-per-year WAH2 clean ammonia project in Western Australia. But the scope of Linde’s involvement could extend further. Linde will also review a “range” of commercial and delivery models for the project, including EPC, build-own-operate, and operations and maintenance (O&M). NH3 said the build-own-operate and O&M options would reduce its capital commitments to the development and its exposure to construction risk. Under such models, Linde could finance, construct, commission, operate, and maintain elements of the plant – most likely hydrogen [...]
H2-View News: 40 hydrogen fuel cell forklifts planned under UK hydrogen cluster
Under the UK’s Lighter than Aire (LTA) hydrogen valley project, which secured €20m ($22.9m) in funding, the forklifts will be used at two warehouses in northern England. IE will work with material handling equipment distributor Briggs Equipment to equip forklifts with its IE-Lift fuel cells, a hybrid fuel cell battery system which delivers 1kW of continuous power and a peak load of 7kW. It’s the first specific use case to be announced under the LTA plans, which aims to develop over 4,500 tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity and deploy more than 150 heavy-duty hydrogen vehicles. David Fields, Head of [...]
H2-View News: GeoPura to deploy 1MW green hydrogen plant at UK port
The system will be installed at the Port of Tilbury and will use on-site solar panels to produce hydrogen under a 10-year agreement, with an option for extension. The specific use case of the hydrogen has not been disclosed. However, GeoPura’s statement points towards the port’s existing plant equipment, like reach stackers, forklifts, and heavy goods vehicles. “Decarbonising these operations presents an opportunity, not only to reduce carbon emissions, but also to improve local air quality and protect worker health,” it said. The agreement stems from a £2m ($2.6m) seed capital investment from the Thames Freeport industrial cluster. Andrew Cunningham, [...]
H2-View News: Toyota plans to buy into Volvo and Daimler’s hydrogen fuel cell JV
Under a new non-binding agreement, the Japanese car maker could become an equal shareholder by investing in a capital raise for the JV. Launched in 2021 by Daimler and Volvo, Cellcentric is aiming to commercialise fuel cell systems for heavy-duty trucks and off-road transport. Toyota, however, has primarily focused on the light-duty passenger vehicle market with its fuel cell Mirai model. It has previously worked with US truck maker Kenworth to develop a fuel cell-powered Class 8 truck. Koji Sato, President and CEO of Toyota, said this experience could help the JV deliver “one of the world-leading fuel cell systems [...]
