When commissioned, the VIVO electrolyser is forecasted to produce 500kg of green hydrogen on-site per day while using an electrical input of 3MW drawn from renewables. Based in Dresden, the German firm has been backed by a consortium led by Commerzbank and other leading German and European commercial banks. Without safeguards, hydrogen producers could potentially claim the highest level of tax credits ($3 per kilogramme) for producing ‘gray’ hydrogen from fossil natural gas, by blending in small amounts of biomethane or waste methane. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies will focus on the supply of Vale’s iron ore agglomerates to GreenIron’s commercial operations in Sandviken, Sweden, where hydrogen is being used to produce iron. Through a feasibility study, they will explore a suitable site for the Brazilian project, considering renewable energy and resource supply options.
