Green hydrogen final investment decision (FID) momentum is accelerating, setting up 2025 as a potential turning point, ITM Power CEO Dennis Schulz told investors. Having logged revenues of £15.5m ($19.3m) in H1 FY25, up 183% year-on-year, and reduced its EBITDA 7% to -£16.8m (-$20.9m), the UK electrolyser maker believes it is in “pole position” to capture demand thanks to its operational changes and continued cost reductions. Despite challenges for hydrogen technology providers, Westwood Global Energy says that in early 2025, new strategies emerged to boost investor confidence and drive projects toward final investment decisions (FID). “Technology providers have been under significant pressure due to the market’s slow growth,” the UK-based analyst noted, highlighting Johnson Matthey’s suspension of further capital investment in hydrogen technologies and Nel’s temporary halt in alkaline electrolyser production in Herøya, Norway. The French developer said its Croixrault facility in the Somme region of Hauts-de-France, would supply up to two tonnes of hydrogen per day from 2026. Coming as the firm’s first site in northern France, Lhyfe plans to supply its green hydrogen output to mobility applications in the region. Last week, Spain’s minority government failed to extend a 1.2% windfall tax on energy firms with revenues over €1bn ($1.04bn) after the proposal was rejected in parliament. Moeve, which rebranded from Cepsa to position itself as “a leader in sustainable energy,” had been a vocal critic of the proposal, warning that it could slow its green hydrogen investments in Spain. That was the message from Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez who was speaking at network operator Enagas’ Hydrogen Day event today (January 29). Sánchez revealed that the Spanish Government would unveil its preliminary plans for its €1.3bn direct subsidy scheme for hydrogen hubs in the coming weeks. It follows a consultation launched in July. Schaeffler Hydrogen Technologies, headquartered in Shanghai, was launched in early January after Schaeffler signed a cooperation framework agreement with the local government. The new company will primarily focus on PEM and anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolysis stack research, development, production and industrialisation.
