H2-View News: Trade bodies urge UK to reform policy and slash green hydrogen costs by 60%

In a new report, the associations made 11 recommendations that could slash electrolytic hydrogen prices by lowering electricity costs, which account for around 70% of the final cost of green hydrogen. If implemented, the bodies say electrolytic hydrogen costs – currently £241/MWh (£8.02/kg) under its first hydrogen allocation round (HAR1) – could fall below £100/MWh (£3.33/kg). Read more: UK Government selects 11 green hydrogen projects for £2bn of revenue support “This report, a combined effort from the trade associations, marks pivotal steps towards achieving our national goals in energy security and clean energy transition by making hydrogen an economically viable [...]

H2-View News: European hydrogen FIDs to scale up in 2025: Westwood Global Energy

Westwood Global Energy forecasts that approximately nine final investment decisions (FIDs) will be made in the European hydrogen sector in 2025, potentially involving larger-scale projects than those approved in 2024. The analyst estimates that up to 500MW of hydrogen production projects could reach a final investment decision (FID) this year. Notable projects include Uniper’s 131MW Green Hydrogen Wilhelmshaven initiative, Renato’s 329MW Catalina P2X project, and the first three developments to secure contracts under the UK’s HAR 1 scheme. H2-View News: Obayashi completes first green hydrogen export from New Zealand to Fiji

The green hydrogen was produced at Halcyon Power’s 1.25MW project in Taupo, New Zealand which uses electricity generated by the nearby Mokai geothermal power plant. An unspecified amount of hydrogen was then transported from the Port of Auckland to Lautoka Port in gas cylinders. It took about a week to transport the green hydrogen before it was utilised for a DF generator installed at Fiji Gas LPG Lautoka Terminal. A press statement released by Obayashi said the generator “successfully supplied electricity by adjusting the hydrogen flow rate to align with the facility’s electricity demand.” H2 View understands that this marked [...]

H2-View News: Nel eyes nuclear hydrogen with alkaline electrolysers under KHNP MOU

Nel announced on LinkedIn that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the South Korean power utility to collaborate on clean hydrogen production technology. Since 2022, KHNP has been researching pink hydrogen – electrolytic production powered by nuclear electricity – and is currently carrying out a demonstration project. Details on the deal remain slim. However, with the pair intending to “expand into global clean hydrogen markets,” it could be a move from Nel to secure the future for its alkaline systems. Earlier this month the company announced it would halt production of its alkaline electrolysers at its flagship [...]

H2-View News: Quest One begins installing electrolyser demonstrator at MAN Energy Solutions’ performance centre

The 10MW electrolyser will generate data in test operation conditions to enable “comprehensive optimisation” of the plant operations, as well as the assembly and service concept of the electrolyser. Additionally, potential customers and project developers will be able to visit the demonstration plant from mid-2025, to give them valuable insights into the construction phases, dimensions, inner workings and infrastructure required. Throughout the course of 2025, the plant will be assembled ahead of first test operations in 2026. Last December, the two companies installed the freshwater treatment for the plant. Furthermore, the development has been funded as part of the PEP.IN [...]

H2-View News: Luxcara and GreenH take FID on 20MW Norwegian green hydrogen plant

The Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, through its state-owned enterprise Enova, granted NOK 129m ($11.4m) in funding support, which enabled the two companies to make the FID. The Bodø Hydrogen Project, located at Langstranda, will have a 20MW electrolyser capacity in phase one and an annual production of up to 3,100 tonnes of green hydrogen. An additional 10MW could be introduced in phase two to increase production capacity to 4,800 tonnes per year. The hydrogen produced will fuel the Vestfjorden ferry connection, operated by Torghatten Nord, which is now scheduled to begin operations in 2026 following a one-year delay. [...]
