H2-View News: Pennsylvania’s ‘all-of-the-above’ energy plan promises $49m in hydrogen funding

Announced at Pittsburgh International Airport, where Keystate and CNX Resources plan to accelerate hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production through a proposed $1.5bn partnership, Shapiro said the plan would incentivise the construction of new energy projects. “Pennsylvania has long been a national energy leader,” he said. “But right now, we’re letting other states outcompete us and we’re losing out on jobs, new investment and innovation – this has to change.” The Lightning Plan, developed with labour unions, the energy industry, and environmental groups, will fund new projects through an updated manufacturing tax credit and streamlined energy project approvals. Regional [...]

H2-View News: European Commission awards €250m to hydrogen infrastructure projects

The EU has stated the funding will “help alleviate investment risks associated with this nascent market” and “complement hydrogen policy framework.” Studies being carried out for the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone have been supported with up to €32.5m ($33.8m), whilst Nordic Hydrogen Route Feasibility and Design studies and BarMar-H2Med Hydrogen Interconnector studies both secured more than €28m ($29m). Furthermore, studies for Italy’s national hydrogen pipeline and the EmilHY France-Germany hydrogen power plant conversion project each secured over €20m ($21m) in funding. The initiatives selected by the EU have all been granted the status of Important Projects of Common Interest (IPCEI) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI). The [...]

H2-View News: HNOI secures hydrogen offtake deal for Texas production facility

HNOI has agreed to provide an unnamed Texas-based company with a supply of hydrogen for its Class 8 fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). H2 View understands that HNOI’s hydrogen production platform in Houston can produce up to 500kg of green hydrogen per day. “The agreement also integrates HNOI’s Compact Hydrogen Refuelling system (CHRS) for refuelling support,” the company wrote online. “With room for expansion, HNOI is projecting to reach nearly $10m in multi-year contracts as HNOI rapidly scales hydrogen production within the first year of operation.” Don Owens, Founder and CEO of HNOI, claimed the agreement highlights the “growing demand” [...]

H2-View News: Build on 20 years of hydrogen policy and assert US dominance: FCHEA boss tells Trump administration

The Trump Administration has a chance to build on two decades of US hydrogen policy to cement its dominance, the Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) boss told a Washington event. Speaking at the US Energy Association’s State of the Energy Industry Forum, Frank Wolak encouraged the new government to “seize the moment” on hydrogen. H2-View News: Modern Hydrogen, Washington utility to assess distributed methane pyrolysis roll-out

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) inked the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Modern Hydrogen to work on commercial and industrial customer decarbonisation plans, market analysis and evaluating deployments. The thermal process breaks down natural gas from the grid into hydrogen and solid carbon. A portion of the hydrogen is used to sustain the pyrolysis process, while the remainder is captured for external use. Modern Hydrogen is also looking to use solid carbon produced by the technology in processes such as asphalt production. Deployed at the point of use for commercial and industrial applications, the companies hope to support the development of [...]

H2-View News: Evonik inks term-sheet for 50MW electrolyser to supply hydrogen peroxide plant

The new electrolyser unit is planned to supply Evonik’s hydrogen peroxide plant from 2027 to partially displace fossil-based hydrogen currently used in its processes. Hydrogen peroxide is widely used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant and oxidising agent. It is primarily produced by reacting hydrogen with anthraquinone to form anthrahydroquinone, which is then oxidised with air to generate hydrogen peroxide before being extracted and purified. Evonik Peroxide Netherlands Managing Director, Peter Metten, explained that the chemicals major wants to switch its production process to entirely renewable resources. “Producing hydrogen peroxide requires three critical resources: electricity, steam and hydrogen,” he said. “Finding [...]

H2-View News: Mattiq and Heraeus partner to commercialise low-iridium catalysts for hydrogen production

The two companies have said they will shorten the traditional R&D-to-commercialisation timeline, “rapidly advancing low-iridium catalysts from prototype to industrial-scale solutions.” H2 View understands that with current iridium loading requirements, PEM electrolysers will be limited in the scale of annual deployment. As one of Earth’s rarest naturally occurring elements, iridium must be used efficiently to meet the growing demand for hydrogen production and other applications. Mattiq will provide its expertise in electrochemical systems design, and Heraeus Precious Metals is a “world leader” in precious metals reclamation, processing and catalyst manufacturing. Philipp Walter, Executive Vice-President of Hydrogen Systems and Head of [...]

H2-View News: UKOG slashes hydrogen storage project costs with Dorset site relocation

The British company’s subsidiary UKEn has completed the preliminary project design for the proposed new underground storage facility, which will incorporate 24 salt caverns at -1.3km. UKOG has stated the new site will offer around 36% lower CAPEX costs than the Portland facility, citing cost savings of £450m ($559m). The new site could improve government revenue support and strategic positioning, being closer to a planned hydrogen pipeline which H2 View understands is being developed by SGN. Furthermore, the new salt cavern site benefits from superior geological conditions, with thicker triassic salt formations allowing for larger caverns and simpler storage. DEEP.KBB [...]

H2-View News: Ricardo achieves full fuel cell power within three months of testing

The British engineering firm announced that the fuel cell achieved full power within three months of its initial start-up testing. Ricardo’s virtual engineering toolchain was used throughout the procedure. This tool reduces physical prototyping costs and risks, accelerates development timelines, and provides a “deeper understanding” of system behaviours under diverse conditions. Ricardo can provide a 3MW containerised solution using the fuel cells, with DC-DC power conversion on board without sacrificing efficiency or durability. When scaled up to incorporate multiple fuel cell modules within two containers, a client can deliver 6MW of power – enough to power a 50,000-tonne, 1,000-passenger cruise [...]
