Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the University of Glasgow spinout will collaborate with the Scottish green hydrogen producer and distributor PlusZero to deploy one commercial demonstrator electrolyser that will be tested in operation for at least six months. The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) said the direct injection ammonia engine, developed with Hyundai and Kia’s Electrification Engineering Center, could overcome challenges with gaseous ammonia fuel such as unstable fuel output and emissions, thanks to the use of high-pressure liquid injection. The research team improved the engine’s ignition system and optimised the timing of fuel injection and valve operation. The plant in Vaggeryd, Jönköping County, will have the capacity to produce up to 4.4 tonnes of green hydrogen per day and will supply local refuelling stations in the region that are currently under construction, as well as industrial heating and production processes.
