H2-View News: 2.5MW hydrogen production plant to be developed in Romania: reports
According to local news outlet Cluj24, the plant will become operational between late 2026 and 2027, after the Local Council approved the feasibility study for the project towards the end of last year. Strategically located within the depot of the Public Transport Company (CTP), the project will reportedly power the city’s future hydrogen-powered bus fleet and be used by the District Heating Authority. If operated continuously, the plant will produce up to 365 tonnes of hydrogen per year, and boast renewable energy consumption of 9.506MWh/year. Funded by the EU, the total investment of the initiative represents 71.8m Lei ($15m), with [...]
H2-View News: Hy24 inks non-binding $115m investment deal for Atome’s green fertiliser project
The investment fund inked a non-binding heads of terms with Atome, which would see it become the project’s lead equity partner as the development targets a final investment decision (FID) by the end of H1 2025. Under the deal, Hy24 could commit between $100m and $115m to the Villeta project. Additionally, before taking FID, if Atome reaches “pre-defined milestones” Hy24 will advance up to $5m of the proposed equity. Atome and Hy24 intend to sign the definitive agreements in Q2. However, Atome must sign a binding offtake agreement and EPC contract and finalise lending agreements. It is also dependent on [...]
H2-View News: Haffner Energy begins biomass-based hydrogen production in France
The facility uses a thermochemical process to convert wood residues into “mobility-grade” hydrogen at a rate of 15kg per hour, designed to operate continuously for 8,000 hours per year. Haffner will produce 11kg per hour in its first phase due to the existing pressure swing absorption (PSA) purification equipment. This will then be replaced by a PSA that can reach 15kg per hour capacity. H2 View understands that the unit already produces hydrogen at 8 bar pressure, ready for commercial distribution in the second half of 2025, marketed to the transportation and industrial markets. Furthermore, Haffner Energy has stated that [...]
H2-View News: Worley secures four-year framework deal for Finland’s hydrogen pipeline
The Australian engineering company will provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for Finland’s hydrogen pipeline system up until 2028, with a potential extension to 2032, as part of a broader project connecting Finland, Sweden and the Baltic Sea region. Under the agreement, Worley will “support and advise Gasgrid to ensure the engineering and construction of the onshore pipeline projects.” Esa Hallivuori, Senior Vice-President of Infrastructure Projects at Gasgrid, said the company aims to boost Finland’s hydrogen economy by attracting high-value investments, expanding exports and strengthening the technology and service sectors. “With the cooperation of Worley, Gasgrid envisions a long-term [...]
H2-View News: bp to limit future hydrogen projects amid green energy pullback
The British energy major revealed it would increase its oil and gas investments by about 30% to $10bn a year while cutting planned renewables funding by over $5bn. As part of that, bp says it will adopt “disciplined investment” in green energy, with selected investments in biogas, biofuels and EV charging; “capital light” partnerships in renewables; and “focused investments” in hydrogen/CCS. It follows similar moves from Shell and Equinor, which have also scaled back green energy investments amid investor backlash against declining profits. “This is a reset bp, with an unwavering focus on growing long-term shareholder value,” said bp CEO, [...]
H2-View News: EU Clean Industrial Deal aims to break through hydrogen scaling challenges
The European Commission will adopt the Delegated Act on low-carbon hydrogen in Q1 2025 to clarify rules on fossil fuel with carbon capture-based hydrogen and production from non-renewable supplied electrolysers. It also plans to launch a third European Hydrogen Bank auction with a €1bn ($1.05bn) budget to bolster further green hydrogen production. This will be supported by a new “hydrogen mechanism” under EHB in Q2 to connect suppliers with offtakers. Furthermore, the Commission has promised to launch a study to assess the effectiveness of its renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) criteria – which has been heavily criticised by green [...]
H2-View News: EU’s Clean Industrial Deal misses the mark with hydrogen, says trade body
The EU’s Clean Industrial Deal (CID) over-prioritises electrification and fails to recognise hydrogen’s crucial role in grid flexibility and industrial decarbonisation, Hydrogen Europe warns. Hydrogen Europe has highlighted that the CID lacks a sector-wide strategy while focusing too heavily on electrification rather than a balanced, integrated approach. H2-View News: Nel won’t build 4GW Michigan electrolyser factory until there’s market demand
Norwegian electrolyser OEM Nel has revealed that it will not build its planned gigafactory in Michigan, the US, until there is a sustainable market. The announcement follows Nel’s 23% year-over-year drop in order backlog to NOK 1.6bn ($144m) in 2024, alongside a 44% decline in cash reserves, which fell from NOK 3.3bn ($297m) to NOK 1.8bn ($162m) over the same period. H2-View News: Renault-Plug hydrogen mobility JV Hyvia put into liquidation
The French JV entered receivership proceedings in December after facing challenges in the “slow evolution of hydrogen mobility ecosystems in Europe and the very high development costs required for hydrogen innovation.” However, a judgement by the Court of Economic Activities of Versailles, dated February 18, converted the process into a legal liquidation. “This decision follows the absence of a credible takeover offer as part of the search process for candidate buyers carried out by the judicial administrator,” a Hyvia statement said. Launched in 2021 by Renault and Plug, Hyvia set out to market hydrogen fuel cell-powered light commercial vehicles and [...]
H2-View News: What does the German election mean for hydrogen?
Sunday’s (February 23) German election has raised uncertainty over how a new government will shape the country’s hydrogen strategy, a cornerstone of one of Europe’s leading clean fuel economies. The centre-right Christian Democrats (CDU), led by Friedrich Merz, achieved the largest share of the vote, with far-right the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party securing second place. Current Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrat Party (SPD) fell into third place. H2 View understands that a coalition is expected to be formed by Easter. Despite the AfD achieving a second-place finish, Merz has ruled out a coalition with the party, making a partnership [...]
