H2-View News: Accelera electrolyser boss: fix policy and offtake hurdles to make green hydrogen meaningful
For green hydrogen to scale meaningfully, projects must move beyond small pilots, mandates must be properly accounted for, and policy constraints must be eased, Accelera by Cummins’ electrolyser boss has told H2 View. Andreas Lippert believes the company’s recent 100MW PEM electrolyser order from bp for its green hydrogen plant in Lingen – together with other large-scale projects – sets a new “benchmark” in the industry. H2-View News: Nigeria and China sign €7.6bn deal for green hydrogen-based methanol project
While details are limited, the project is set to be located within the Liberty Free Trade Zero (LFTZ) at Atabrikang in the Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. The agreement was signed in Uyo, Nigeria, over the weekend between the Federal Government, APPL Hydrogen Limited (AHL) and China’s LONGi Green Energy Technology. Idara Ekpo, Chief Visionary Officer of AHL, revealed that the project will potentially produce 1.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen-based methanol per year for export, in addition to medical oxygen and food-grade CO2. The Nigerian Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, [...]
H2-View News: Italy’s Ansaldo secures €317m IPCEI funding for 1MW AEM electrolysers
The funding, secured through the €5.4bn ($5.7bn) Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) Hy2Tech scheme, will support Ansaldo Green Tech in the construction of a new AEM production line and R&D expansion at its Genova site. Read more: European Commission approves IPCEI Hy2Tech programme H2 View understands the company will be looking to develop and industrialise 1MW modular systems in both containerised and “open design” solutions. Capable of producing over 500kg of hydrogen per day, Ansaldo says its systems offer high efficiency, flexibility and pressurised hydrogen production while reducing the amount of critical minerals used. The company has already [...]
H2-View News: Oman opens first green hydrogen refuelling station
The site, located near Muscat International Airport, can produce up to 130kg of green hydrogen per day to support the deployment of 15 hydrogen-powered taxis from the state-owned transport agency Mwasalat. Alongside hydrogen capacity, the station also hosts EV fast-charging and conventional fuelling options. “Not too long ago, the idea of refuelling a car with hydrogen in Oman felt like a vision for the future,” Shell’s Oman Country Chair, Walid Hadi posted on LinkedIn. “Today, that future is here with the launch of Oman’s first green hydrogen station.” Omani Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Nasser Al Aufi, said that [...]
H2-View News: Wrightbus unveils new hydrogen double-decker with more efficiency and lower costs
The new Streetdeck Hydroliner Gen 2 was redesigned “from the ground up” in a four-year project part-funded by the UK Government’s Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC). Featuring Ballard’s latest fuel cell, the OEM says the Gen 2 bus offers 20% savings in fuel costs, 30% savings in maintenance parts over 15 years, a 5% increase in passenger capacity, as well as “significant savings” on original base price. The Jo Bamford-owned firm says the new model can be refuelled in just eight minutes and boasts a range of over 300 miles, which it claims is a “like-for-like replacement to diesel.” “Our development [...]
H2-View News: Kellogg’s begins three-week trial of hydrogen-powered cereal production
As part of the UK Government’s £55m ($69m) Industrial Fuel Switching Competition, and under the HyNet Industrial Fuel Switching 2 programme, Kellogg’s will undergo a three-week demonstration using hydrogen power. Read more: Cornflakes, paper towels and aluminium cans: Hydrogen fuel switching projects backed by UK Government At its Manchester factory, Kellogg’s replaced fossil fuel gas with hydrogen to power the toasting oven, which is used to produce brands such as Corn Flakes, Bran Flakes, Special K and Rice Krispies. Kellogg’s Vice-President of Manufacturing, Sam Bistiaux, said the company will share examples and learnings of the demonstration to help other businesses [...]
H2-View News: Germany’s Baden-Württemberg launches €100m hydrogen production funding programme
Electrolyser-based projects built within the state can apply for funding up until May 15, 2025. The maximum funding amount per project is €10m ($10.5m), while small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can secure up to €8.25m ($8.6m) per project. The funding will reportedly cover up to 45% of eligible investment costs, with small businesses entitled to an additional 20% and medium-sized organisations an additional 10%. The German Ministry for Environment, Climate and Energy Economy (BMWK) is backing the Funding for Electrolysers (ELY) programme, which will be managed by the Karlsruhe Project Management Agency. Baden-Württemberg Energy Minister Thekla Walker said a state-wide [...]
H2-View News: Repsol cuts 2030 hydrogen capacity target by up to 60%
The company’s CEO, Josu Jon Imaz, told investors last week (February 20) that Repsol’s initial aim for 1.9GW of installed renewable hydrogen capacity by 2030 had been reduced to between 700MW and 1.2GW. H2 View understands that 350MW of hydrogen production will come from biomethane reforming at refineries to reduce the need for additional investment in electrolysis. Imaz shared concerns about the feasibility of hydrogen adoption in industries such as steel, cement, paper and chemicals, and therefore, Respol is “phasing down dramatically [its] hydrogen investment and expectation.” “We are reducing the installed capacity that we announced four years ago,” explained [...]
H2-View News: UK Government commits £200m funding for Grangemouth
The investment comes on top of the £100m Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal, delivered jointly with the Scottish Government, which will invest in local energy projects, and the £1.5m Project Willow, which is examining the site’s green energy and hydrogen potential, and will report in the spring. “We will grasp the opportunities at Grangemouth, work alongside partners to develop viable proposals and team up with business to get new industries off the ground,” Prime Minister Starmer said. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham welcomed the news after months of campaigning. “This needs to be the start not the end in delivering a real [...]
