H2-View News: Hynfra and Jolt Solutions aim to enhance electrolyser efficiencies under new partnership

Under a Letter of Intent (LOI), Jolt will supply its electrode technology. Its Sparkfuze coating process reportedly enables “faster and more effective production” of high-performance electrodes. In an online statement, Jolt said this could extend the operational lifespan of an electrolyser and improve its efficiency. Therefore, Hynfra could use it in its industrial-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects. Read more: Hynfra to produce 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia in Egypt for European export Together, they will work on technical evaluations and feasibility studies. The two companies will explore opportunities for collaborative research, pilot deployments and partnerships with industrial players. The companies [...]

H2-View News: Zepp.solutions chosen as fuel cell supplier for Dutch river cruise project

Under the supply deal, Zepp.solutions will provide its X150 fuel cell modules to deliver power outputs exceeding 1MW in a retrofitted cruise vessel. Largely funded by the Dutch Maritime Master Plan, NERA-H2 aims to introduce hydrogen as a clean energy source for the river cruise industry, helping to cut emissions in cities. More than 420 vessels operate in urban areas across Europe, where the initiative could have a significant impact. The Master Plan targets at least 40 zero-emission ships by 2030. Insights gained from NERA-H2 will be shared to enable further industry-wide adoption of hydrogen propulsion. The NERA Company B.V. [...]

H2-View News: EU approves €41m German state aid for Uniper’s 30MW green hydrogen project

Project Chess will implement an electrolyser built by Uniper’s subsidiary and installed at a power plant in Huntorf. Uniper and its project partner EWE expect the electrolyser to produce around 2,700 tonnes of green hydrogen per year in its first phase. The region’s abundant wind resources will be used to power the electrolyser, whilst the produced hydrogen could be transported to local industrial customers via nearby gas pipelines or stored in salt caverns. The project, which could be scaled up to 300MW in the future, is scheduled to be completed by 2027. In an online statement, the European Commission said [...]

H2-View News: Air Products exits US green hydrogen and SAF projects in $3.1bn write-down

It has also said it will soon provide updates on its 2.2GW NEOM green hydrogen plant and Louisiana blue hydrogen project. Aimed at streamlining its capital spending, the industrial gas major has left three US projects in total, which it said would lead to $3.1bn in pre-tax charges to write down assets and terminate contracts. The company said it had cancelled its $500m plans to build a 35-tonne per day liquid green hydrogen plant in Massena, New York, due to US regulations ruling out existing hydroelectric power from lucrative tax credits. Under finalised rules for the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) [...]

H2-View News: Norwegian Hydrogen and Vireon established as separate companies

In a bid to make the companies more “agile”, Vireon will operate independently while maintaining collaboration with the green hydrogen producer where beneficial. “With Vireon now standing on its own, both companies can pursue our respective growth strategies while collaborating where it makes sense,” explained Jens Berge, CEO of Norwegian Hydrogen. “Vireon can now collaborate more independently with other players in the industry, including our competitors.” The refuelling firm is now looking to expand its operations in the Nordics by forming new partnerships focused on refuelling heavy-duty trucks. “We are actively engaging with potential partners across the value chain,” claimed [...]

H2-View News: SteelWatch: Import green DRI, not hydrogen and iron ore

The steel decarbonisation advocacy group said that local direct reduced iron (DRI) production in regions like northern Europe would take around four times more shipping capacity for hydrogen and iron ore than shipping the end product. It said the inputs for a local 2.5 million tonne per annum (mtpa) direct reduced iron (DRI) plant total of 3.5 million cubic metres of hydrogen and iron ore would need to be imported. In stark contrast, it estimates shipping 2.5 mtpa of green sponge iron from an overseas DRI plant, with locally available hydrogen and iron ore, involves moving just 0.75-1 million cubic [...]

H2-View News: Accelera electrolyser boss: fix policy and offtake hurdles to make green hydrogen meaningful

For green hydrogen to scale meaningfully, projects must move beyond small pilots, mandates must be properly accounted for, and policy constraints must be eased, Accelera by Cummins’ electrolyser boss has told H2 View. Andreas Lippert believes the company’s recent 100MW PEM electrolyser order from bp for its green hydrogen plant in Lingen – together with other large-scale projects – sets a new “benchmark” in the industry.
