H2-View News: Bosch taps JM to boost hydrogen fuel cell performance
The German automotive supplier in 2023 started volume production of its up to 300kW fuel cell systems as it targeted €5bn ($5.18bn) of hydrogen technology sales by 2030. Having used the US zero-emission truck manufacturer Nikola as a pilot customer for the modules, the new partnership with JM is hoped to improve performance and efficiency. CCMs are essential in PEM fuel cells, combining a proton-conducting membrane with catalyst layers to efficiently convert hydrogen into electricity through electrochemical reactions. Bosch Mobility Executive Vice-President of Engineering Power Solutions, Beate Grota, said the firm’s fuel cell technology was already set for widespread use, [...]
H2-View News: Support hydrogen and build UK infrastructure to cut emissions urges DNV report
The independent energy and assurance provider assessed the UK’s trajectory against key government targets: Clean Power 2030, 2035 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and Net Zero by 2050. It found the development of the UK hydrogen market requires ‘significant support’ and without it, it is unlikely that low-carbon hydrogen production rates will hit 2030 targets. DNV forecasts 0.9 Mt/y of hydrogen in 2030, with only 25% low carbon (equivalent to 4GW, 6GW short of government target). But it does forecast it will grow to 4.7 Mt/y by 2050. “Without a clear business model or market support mechanism, high production costs would [...]
H2-View News: SunHydrogen claims 9% efficiency for solar-to-hydrogen module
Tests at the University of Tokyo in Japan showed that SunHydrogen successfully scaled up its technology while maintaining an efficiency close to the 10% previously achieved with its smaller 100cm² modules. The US-based company has said the modules remained stable across a temperature range of 5°C to 40°C. According to Dr. Syed Mubeen, SunHydrogen’s chief technology officer (CTO), the company now aims to refine its design and increase efficiency beyond 10%. CEO, Tim Young, added, “Scaling up tenfold presents unique challenges, and we are extremely pleased to have maintained such high efficiency in our first large-area test. “To our knowledge, [...]
H2-View News: Hybrid hydrogen shunter locomotive debuts after four years of development
The HydroShunter project, which set out to retrofit a Class 8 diesel shunter with zero-emission technology, has now unveiled its working prototype – offering a glimpse into how hydrogen could help extend the life of heritage locomotives. On January 31, project partners Severn Valley Railway, University of Birmingham and Vanguard Sustainable Transport Solutions revealed the working fuel cell and battery-powered train. Equipped with an 80kW fuel cell and 230kWh battery system, the train has up to 250kW of traction power and can reach up to 15mph. With up to 60kg of storage, the firms say it has an estimated running [...]
H2-View News: Amogy plans South Korean expansion to tap into maritime and hydrogen growth
The ammonia-to-power solutions provider said it would open an office in Pangyo Techno Valley to bring it closer to investors and key maritime and hydrogen supply chains. Last month the firm raised $56m in venture financing from investors such as Samsung, Hanwha, Seoul IP and others. Read more: Maritime majors back Amogy’s ammonia-to-power tech in $56m raise In a press statement, Amogy said South Korea’s early adoption of ammonia and hydrogen technologies, as well as its “robust” national policies, was a major driver in its decision. The company has also been focusing on applying its catalyst and reforming ammonia cracking [...]
H2-View News: Plug Power introduces weekly spot pricing for liquid hydrogen
Spot pricing offers Plug clients lower costs, transparency, and flexibility while enabling Plug to maximise peak prices during high demand, expand its customer base, and boost market liquidity. The strategy will allow industries like retail, manufacturing and power generation to optimise supply based on real-time demand. Plug Power has said it entered into spot pricing agreements with “several key industrial players,” underscoring “widespread industry endorsement.” If customers want to purchase hydrogen at the published price – released every Thursday – they must have a spot agreement in place with Plug. From then, Plug will execute a transaction agreement to accept a customer [...]

H2-View News: Whyalla hydrogen project future uncertain as GFG Alliance delays offtake commitment
The project, which gained environmental approval last November (2024), will build 250MW of electrolysers to provide hydrogen to a 200MW power generation unit. It will include a storage pipeline for up to 100 tonnes of hydrogen. Read more: South Australia’s 200MW Whyalla hydrogen power plant gains environmental approval In February 2024, GFG Alliance signed an agreement with the South Australian Government to explore offtaking green hydrogen from the plant to help decarbonise the Whyalla steelworks. However, speaking to ABC Radio Adelaide, Peter Malinauskas, Premier of South Australia, stressed the need to confirm the hydrogen offtake deal. “We’ve got to keep [...]
H2-View News: Analysis: Will Air Products stay on course for 1.4 mtpa clean hydrogen?
With a clean hydrogen production target more than double that of its closest competitors by 2033, any strategic shift under Air Products’ new CEO could reshape the company’s role in the hydrogen market. Data from GWGI indicate that if the US industrial gas major’s new CEO, Eduardo Menezes, opts for a strategic shift, moving away from the company’s clean hydrogen pipeline will be a significant challenge. H2-View News: HydroFleet to invest $33m for natural gas-based hydrogen refuelling hub in Georgia
The firm, which claims to have delivered 450,000kg of hydrogen fuel to end-user fleets since its founding in 2016, says the new facility in Pooler will refuel seven to 14 trucks per day initially. In a presentation document, HydroFleet says it will produce hydrogen using a small-scale autothermal reformation (ATR) unit manufactured by OneH2. The “R600” unit is expected to use pure water and natural gas as feedstocks. There is no mention of the hydrogen production system’s CO2 emissions or plans to integrate carbon capture technology. However, H2 View calculates a system of this kind would generate around 8.8 tonnes [...]
