The US cryogenic equipment maker said it had axed the Flowserve merger after its board determined that Baker Hughes had made a “superior” offer. The deal values Chart’s equity at $210 a share – a 22% premium on its market capitalisation. “This all-cash transaction with Baker Hughes delivers immediate value to Chart shareholders,” said Chart President and CEO Jill Evanko. Under a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ulemco, the efforts will focus on demand creation in Wales and southern England, where Protium is already producing hydrogen. Despite its potential for decarbonising heavy-duty transport, hydrogen mobility faces persistent barriers, including sparse refuelling infrastructure, limited vehicle availability, and high fuel costs. Air Liquide has revealed that over half of its €4.6bn ($5.3bn) investment backlog is linked to hydrogen and the energy transition, with €2.3bn ($2.6bn) in new investments approved in the first half of 2025. Air Liquide Group CEO François Jackow described the investment backlog – over 40% of which is tied to energy transition projects – as a “new record.” Representing a 39% increase compared to H1 2024, the €2.3bn of investments include the development of large low-carbon hydrogen electrolysers in France and the Netherlands. Newly appointed CEO Jean-Baptiste Lucas said the automaker’s sudden exit from hydrogen fuel cell development came as a “shock” to Symbio’s 640 employees. The company had scaled up rapidly to meet anticipated demand, including opening a 50,000-unit-per-year gigafactory in Lyon, France. Stellantis became a one-third shareholder in Symbio in 2023 alongside Michelin and Forvia, aiming to support the rollout of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) across Europe. Under the programme, which is part of H2Global, each government will contribute up to €200m ($230m) to cover the cost gap between the price of green hydrogen production and what buyers in Germany are currently willing to pay.
