HydePoint and Nel partner on offshore and nearshore hydrogen production systems

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies aim to co-develop robust configurations capable of delivering reliable performance under demanding conditions.

“HydePoint brings a highly innovative approach to marine-based hydrogen systems,” Todd Cartwright, Chief Commercial Officer at Nel said. “We see strong alignment between our PEM technology and HydePoint’s ambition to deliver resilient, modular solutions for the global clean energy transition.”

Last year, HydePoint announced it would collaborate with Norwegian Hydrogen to deliver 10-40MW dockside and nearshore hydrogen projects in Europe.

However, it hasn’t been confirmed whether the agreement with Nel would build upon this collaboration.

Offshore hydrogen production has been achieved before.

In June 2023, French hydrogen producer Lhyfe announced they had successfully produced its first kilogrammes of hydrogen through its Sealhyfe platform.
