H2-View News: Ammonia nearing proof of concept in shipping
While ammonia is ready for piloting in shipping and methanol for low-carbon operations, both require a concerted push if they are to be mature enough to rapidly scale from around 2030, in line with industry targets, the From pilots to practice: Methanol and ammonia as shipping fuels report notes. It finds the key area to be addressed is the fuel supply chain – in the case of methanol, enhancing the availability of green molecules; for ammonia, validating and rolling out commercial ammonia bunkering at key ports. Jesse Fahnestock, Director of Decarbonisation at the Global Maritime Forum, said we have seen [...]
H2-View News: HyTerra confirms hydrogen up to 83% at Kansas Nemaha project
Unlike the Sue Duroche 3 well, drilled in April and recording hydrogen up to 96%, the McCoy 1 well at the Nemaha project was sunk 9km away within the same fault block. HyTerra stated this step-out drilling confirms the system extends beyond a single site, supporting its potential as a scalable hydrogen-helium play. The discovery came just five months after HyTerra kicked off its first Kansas drilling campaign. In March, the company highlighted reports of hydrogen concentrations of 92% and up to 3% helium at the Nemaha site. © HyTerra Furthermore, helium levels of 5% far exceed Kansas’ traditional 0.25-2.5%, [...]
H2-View News: Gasgrid begins environmental assessment for Finland’s hydrogen backbone
The EIA process will kick off on the Tornio to Porvoo leg to examine options to determine the final route for the pipeline following discussions with landowners and stakeholders, and detailed technical design. Industrial companies are also being consulted on the route, through a market survey which has been open since 2023. EIAs will also be conducted on the development in Northern Ostrobothnia, Western Finland, Southwestern Finland, and Southern Finland. Once complete, Gasgrid will begin applying for permits to construct the network. Earlier this year, Worley was appointed Owner’s Engineer for the network to provide front-end engineering and design until [...]
H2-View News: EODev hydrogen generator deployed in Taiwan disaster relief for first time
The unit supplied zero-emission, off-grid power to one of Taiwan’s hardest-hit regions during emergency relief efforts. According to reports, residents praised the generator’s ability to quickly restore power, while Taiwan’s President, Lai Ching-te, also visited the site and observed the generator delivered by Necellent Energy. The unit delivers 80kW via a hydrogen fuel cell with battery support, scalable in parallel for microgrids, and consumes about 10kg of hydrogen per hour at 350 bar. Last year, the generator model was used at a construction site in the UK throughout a four-week trial. Throughout the four weeks, the construction site consumed 202.5kg [...]
H2-View News: Carbon280 commissions pilot plant for Hydrilyte hydrogen storage in WA
Carbon280’s TRL6 prototype showcases its Hydrilyte technology at “an industrially relevant scale,” storing hydrogen as a liquid at ambient conditions for transport via existing fuel infrastructure. The system can also separate hydrogen from helium for storage and delivery. “Natural hydrogen in combination with Hydrilyte will be game-changing for the use of hydrogen across all industries, including energy, by slashing costs and simplifying handling,” explained Founder and CEO Mark Rheinlander. The pilot plant is expected to provide performance and validation data for partners, investors and a potential future scale-up. The lab and pilot were backed by AUD $10.6m ($6.9m) in seed [...]
H2-View News: Advent to supply MEA technology for Stralis’ hydrogen aircraft
The US technology firm said that its MEA technology enables engines to be “efficiently cooled with smaller radiators that reduce weight and drag on the aircraft.” Stralis will install the technology onto its hydrogen-electric Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft. Stralis will trial its hydrogen-electric system on a Bonanza A36 this year, with results informing a 15-seat B1900D-HE retrofit offering 800km range, due to enter service with Skytrans Airlines in 2026. “We are already testing our hydrogen-electric propulsion system on the ground and plan to achieve the first flight of our six-seat technology demonstrator aircraft later this year,” explained Stuart Johnstone, Stralis’ Chief [...]
H2-View News: Torrent Group commissions hydrogen–gas blending project in Uttar Pradesh
Located in Gorakhpur, the plant will produce green hydrogen for blending into compressed (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG). Though modest in scale, the plant will produce enough hydrogen to feed into Torrent Gas’ City Gas Distribution network in Gorakhpur, delivering a cleaner fuel mix to households, CNG stations, and local industries. The project is backed by Uttar Pradesh’s Green Hydrogen Policy 2024 and represents the country’s largest hydrogen–natural gas blending initiative within a city gas distribution network. The state has set a target of producing one million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2028 under its policy framework. Chief [...]
H2-View News: Tasmania rolls out first hydrogen buses in Hobart public transport trial
Representing a first in public transport for Tasmania as part of Metro’s Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) trial, the project was backed by the government through Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania. The buses, which will use locally produced hydrogen, are expected to operate on a variety of Metro’s Hobart routes, collecting data and insights on the fuel cell-powered vehicles’ performance in Tasmania’s climate and terrain. Partner H2H Energy is set to refuel the vehicles using its H2Core technology – a containerised refuelling station capable of dispensing hydrogen at 35 or 70 MPa. H2 View understands that the green hydrogen will [...]
H2-View News: Meranti Green Steel eyes 2026 FID for 2.5 mtpa green iron project in Oman
Located in Duqm’s Special Economic Zone (Sezad), the hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant is expected to transition to low-carbon iron production by starting with a natural gas and green hydrogen mix, before gradually ramping up to 85% green hydrogen. With commissioning slated for 2029 and construction due to start immediately after FID, MGS has already locked in land at Duqm, secured a conditional gas allocation, and established a local entity to anchor the project. A significant portion of the 2.5 million tonnes per year is earmarked for MGS’ planned green steel mill in Rayong, Thailand, which is set to become [...]
H2-View News: India to launch first hydrogen-powered train on Jind–Sonepat route
According to reports, the prototype train successfully passed load testing at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, one of Indian Railways’ largest and oldest train manufacturing facilities. Expected to be rolled out on the Jind-Sonepat route in Haryana, the diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) will run two daily trips totalling 356km and carry over 2,600 passengers per day. The train’s two 1,600 HP diesel cars have been converted to use hydrogen fuel cell systems, and they will store 220kg of hydrogen in 350-bar high-pressure cylinders. Additionally, a new station in Jind with 3,000kg hydrogen capacity has been built according [...]
