H2-View News: IIT Madras develops ‘cost-effective’ seawater electrolysis system
The Indian technical and research university claimed the system is cheaper to build and operate, which could improve the economics of green hydrogen production and speed up adoption. Using seawater for electrolysis offers location flexibility, paving the way for offshore or coastal hydrogen hubs that can be co-located with wind or solar power. IIT Madras also said the breakthrough supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish the country as a leading global producer and exporter. If scaled, the technology could cut costs, ease pressure on freshwater, and enhance India’s competitiveness in the hydrogen market. The development is [...]
H2-View News: PGS selects Thyssenkrupp Nucera tech for 1.4GW green iron project in Australia
The German technology firm has been selected as the preferred supplier to deliver modular 20MW alkaline electrolysers for green hydrogen production at what PGS says will be the world’s largest green iron plant. Planned for Geraldton, Western Australia, the facility aims to produce up to 7 million tonnes of green iron pellets annually, alongside as much as 2.5 million tonnes of hot briquetted iron (HBI) for export. In the long term, the green steel developer plans to produce and export up to 30 million tonnes of DR-grade green pellets and 10 million tonnes of green HBI per year as it [...]
H2-View News: Cavendish Hydrogen tightens losses but warns of lower revenues ahead
The Nel spin-off logged revenues of €5.6m ($6.5m), up from €3.7m ($4.3m) in Q1 but down on the same period in 2024. It reported losses before interest and taxes of €4.6m ($5.4m), up 35% from last quarter. Despite the loss narrowing, the firm’s cash position was reduced from €34.5m ($40.2m) in Q1 to €28.7m ($33.4m), despite plans to stem cash flow with job cuts and paused R&D work earlier this year. CEO Robert Borin said the quarter unfolded “largely as expected” and was keen to highlight Cavendish’s opening of two new stations in California. He stressed that the stations in [...]
H2-View News: Ohmium unveils new PEM electrolyser with compact 29.7 m²/MW footprint
Ohmium reiterated that the plant doesn’t just encompass the electrolyser stacks, but it integrates the balance of plant, power distribution and electronics, water treatment, purification and cooling. Additionally, the US-based clean energy technology firm has said standard equipment, such as forklifts, can be used to handle modules, cutting construction costs and making replacements easier. H2 View understands the 29.7 m²/MW figure reflects the electrolyser’s full footprint. For example, a 10MW system would occupy roughly the area of a tennis court, which translates into savings on land, installation, and maintenance, directly lowering the levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH). “By integrating a [...]
H2-View News: Topsoe revenues drop 11%, but order backlog and hydrogen investment grow
The Danish company posted revenues of DKK 3.68bn ($532m), down from DKK 4.15bn ($601m) a year earlier, while EBIT before special items dropped to DKK 152m ($22m) from DKK 503m ($73m). However, its energy transition solutions segment, which spans green hydrogen, e-fuels and low-carbon fuel technologies, contributed DKK 839m ($121m), or 23% of revenue, up from DKK 788m ($114m) in 2024. Topsoe has invested DKK 676m ($98m) in clean energy technologies so far in 2025, mostly directed towards its flagship solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) facility in Herning, Denmark, which the company stated is now in the final stage of [...]
H2-View News: Agfa-Gevaert keeps Zirfon expansion on track despite EU hydrogen slowdown
Agfa-Gevaert is pressing ahead with the launch of its large-scale alkaline electrolyser membrane plant in Belgium, despite a broader green hydrogen market slowdown. The speciality materials company said its EU-backed Mortsel plant – designed to produce enough Zirfon membranes to support 20GW of electrolysis annually – remains “on track” for opening on 29 September. H2-View News: Proven scale gives China edge as Atome eyes electrolysers for Paraguay plant: CEO
Chinese alkaline electrolyser options may prove decisive for Atome’s 145MW green fertiliser project in Paraguay, not just for their low cost but for their proven operational track record at industrial scale, according to the firm’s CEO. Olivier Mussat told H2 View the Villeta project is not shaped by EU politics or subsidies, meaning Atome can conduct full due diligence on global manufacturers and use its shareholder Hy24’s experience to benchmark performance. And from those assessments, Mussat said Chinese electrolysers stand out for one key reason: scale. “The only electrolysers in operation above 100MW are Chinese, and in China,” he said. [...]
H2-View News: UK gov aims to cut hydrogen permitting delays with time-limited trial approvals
Under an eight-week consultation, the government will assess plans to modernise permitting for industry and energy, with hydrogen given as a central example. If a steel mill, cement plant or refinery wants to test hydrogen burners, fuel switching or blending, a “common-sense” trial permit will allow time-limited approvals for hydrogen-based technologies. The consultation also proposes replacing process-by-process approvals with flexible, facility-wide permits based on an overall emissions cap, allowing operators to switch processes to hydrogen without multiple new applications. The Environment Agency (EA) is considering digitalisation and a risk-based system to speed up approvals, which could enable low-risk hydrogen projects [...]
H2-View News: Queensland seeks AUD $66m from Fortescue over cancelled hydrogen project
The Queensland government is taking legal action to recoup AUD $66m ($42.8m) of funding from mining major Fortescue after it scrapped a green hydrogen project in the state, according to reports. In July, the firm axed its 50MW green hydrogen project in Gladstone, which had reached final investment decision in 2023, due to it being “no longer needed” to test its self-developed electrolysis technology. H2-View News: BBVA says hydrogen immaturity limits bankability, but debt appetite is growing
BBVA believes green hydrogen will become a mainstream market for debt financing, but the Managing Director for Low Carbon Advisory at BBVA warned that technology immaturity continues to limit bankability. “The challenge lies in the difficulty of understanding the degree of maturity of each project,” explained Dorian de Kermadec. “[Challenges include] the high price of green hydrogen limiting offtaker appetite, a slowly evolving European regulatory framework, complex contractual arrangements, and projects that often combine multiple technologies requiring sophisticated financing structures.” For now, the Spanish multinational bank sees its role less as a straightforward lender and more as a partner in [...]
