Hydrogen Council News: Hydrogen changing tack: from announcements to hard commitments

This article was first published in H2 View By Peter Mackey, Vice-President Strategy & Business Management, Hydrogen Energy business line, Air Liquide. Twain’s (mis)quote – “reports of my death are greatly exaggerated” – may be a well-worn cliche for new markets and industries, but in the case of hydrogen, the point still holds. Commentators have been quick to focus on postponed or abandoned projects, bankruptcies, and cost challenges.  These are undeniable, especially after the optimism of the 2021-2023 peak that drove the first wave of announcements. But they do not tell the full story. The reality is more nuanced and [...]

Hydrogen Council News: How hydrogen is quietly maturing into reality

This article was first published in Decarbonisation Technology By Özlem Duyan, Head of Research, Hydrogen Council Like the turning of the ocean tide, hydrogen’s progress advances in waves – sometimes barely visible from the shore, yet behind the surface, a far more important story is unfolding: one of industrial maturity, global collaboration, and continued progress. Just as wind and solar went through early ebbs and flows before reaching scale, hydrogen is also navigating its own cycle of trial, consolidation, and growth. Not every project will reach the shore, and this is a normal part of industrial evolution. However, those that [...]

Hydrogen Council News: Projects Building at Scale

Across regions and applications, several flagship hydrogen projects have moved beyond commitment into final-stage construction – some now more than 90% complete. These projects represent what it takes to deliver hydrogen at scale: bankable demand enabling policy and infrastructure experienced developers disciplined execution Here are six iconic projects now entering the final stretch – Beaumont New Ammonia, Lingen Green Hydrogen, ACES Delta, Holland Hydrogen 1, NEOM Green Hydrogen, Boden Renewable Steel Plant. H2-View News: Solatio rethinks 3GW Brazil hydrogen project after court ruling

This story has been updated since its original publication to reflect Solatio’s statement. Plans for a 3GW green hydrogen and ammonia plant in Brazil’s northeast are now under review for downscaling or conversion into a major data centre complex after a federal court ordered work on the project to stop over environmental licensing concerns. H2-View News: Cavendish wins €5m contract for German hydrogen refuelling station

The Norwegian hydrogen refuelling firm will team up with Denmark’s Everfuel to construct the station for an unnamed customer, said to be a “leading and influential player in the German mobility sector”. Located in the West of Germany, the station is planned to fuel up to 25 buses per day with hydrogen dispensed at 350 bar. Cavendish is expected to deliver in two phases through 2026 and 2027, with construction set to begin in the latter. Everfuel will act as a subcontractor on the development, building on two previous bus-focused stations developed in Germany by the two firms. The announcement [...]

H2-View News: EU clears €200m German backing for Canadian green hydrogen imports

The €200m German funding, which will be matched by Canada, will be awarded through the H2Global scheme, where Canadian producers could be awarded contracts to supply EU-certified green hydrogen for German consumption. Under the scheme, H2Global’s investment vehicle Hintco will purchase the hydrogen volumes and resell them to European consumers at the highest possible market price, absorbing the price gap between green and grey alternatives. The European Commission said the joint €400m ($464m) German-Canadian scheme could support the construction of up to 300MW of electrolyser capacity in Canada. Contracts will be awarded through competitive bidding to support the lowest-cost molecules [...]

H2-View News: Clyde Hydrogen builds first integrated decoupled electrolyser system

The University of Glasgow spin-out said its decoupled electrolyser could be integrated with intermittent renewables and store hydrogen in a non-gaseous form, offering a potential solution to long-term energy storage. Clyde’s beta technology splits water into two stages with an electrochemical reduction and a catalytic generator to improve flexibility when using renewable power. This development comes after the decoupled electrolysis system produced its first molecules in March 2025. Now, the start-up expects to have its first market-ready product available in 2028. Last year, Clyde inked a memorandum of understanding with Scotland’s PlusZero to bring forward out-of-lab demonstrations of the technology. [...]

H2-View News: Estonian solid oxide firm eyes India and APAC growth

Anil Srikar Pavuluri, who will be based in New Delhi, has extensive electrolyser and fuel cells experience working at Larsen & Toubro, Toshiba and GreenH Electrolysis. Anil Srikar Pavuluri For Elcogen, specialising in high-efficiency solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and electrolyser (SOEC) technology, the move presents a significant opportunity, with the region experiencing fast green hydrogen and data centre growth. Elcogen says its solid oxide electrode-supported cells are among the “most efficient” on the market, and can operate at 600–800°C for both fuel cell and electrolysis operations. It currently manufactures cells for third-party systems, as well as its own electrolyser [...]

H2-View News: UK natural hydrogen firm pursues South African exploration rights

The company said the Petroleum Agency SA had accepted two applications for review, with final approval still required from the Minister of Mines and Energy. If approved, the three-year licenses would allow H2Au to search for natural hydrogen in around 3.4 million acres in the Bushveld region, where the company claims its own studies revealed “promising results.” H2Au CEO, Owain Jackson, said the work “reinforced our confidence” in the region’s natural hydrogen potential. The firm said the areas had been “high-graded” for natural hydrogen potential and lie within a “major industrial and mining corridor,” where it says it has begun [...]

H2-View News: Court says US DOE acted unconstitutionally in clean energy funding cuts

The US Department of Energy (DOE) acted unconstitutionally when it axed $7.5bn worth of clean-energy funding, including grants linked to two West Coast hydrogen hubs, a federal court has ruled. The US District Court for the District of Columbia ruled in favour of a lawsuit against the DOE and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, alleging the administration breached the Fifth Amendment by cancelling grants based on the political leanings of states.
