H2-View News: Siemens Energy-Air Liquide electrolyser orders surpass 1GW in two years

The PEM electrolyser making operation opened in November 2023 with one-third of its nameplate 3GW capacity, with plans to scale up by 2026. Air Liquide’s Vice-President of Innovation, Electronics and Hydrogen, Armelle Levieux, revealed on LinkedIn, the site had passed 1GW of order intake this week. “The stacks coming out of this factory are already making major projects a reality,” she said. The milestone comes after Siemens Energy delivered the first nine of 12 stacks to Air Liquide’s 200MW Normand’Hy project. The joint venture is also lined up to supply technology for Air Liquide’s 450MW worth of Dutch projects to [...]

H2-View News: Italgas opens Italy’s first hydrogen plant linked to city gas grid

The 500kW solar-powered plant in Sestu, Sardinia, is designed to produce around 21 tonnes of hydrogen annually, with output expected to increase to 70 tonnes per year by 2028. In Sestu, the produced hydrogen is blended with natural gas and piped into the local gas grid to power households and small businesses. Additionally, it’s set to power a fleet of buses and supply the production process of a local dairy industry. Project Hyround represents a €15m ($16.3m) investment, including €1.5m ($1.6m) from Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to fund an associated hydrogen refuelling station. “Hyround confirms the central [...]

H2-View News: Trump’s DOE axes $2.2bn funding for California and Pacific Northwest hydrogen hubs

The US Department of Energy has terminated funding for two clean hydrogen hubs, previously selected for a combined $2.2bn. California’s Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES), and the Pacific Northwest Regional Hydrogen Hub (PNWH2) both saw funds cut as part of a wider $7.5bn rollback, largely targeting projects in Democrat-leaning states. The funding stemmed from the Biden administration’s $8bn clean regional hydrogen hubs programme under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. H2-View News: OKQ8 and Econ open Gothenburg hydrogen station with Resato technology

Hydrogen supplier and project developer Econ is collaborating with energy firm Skellefteá Kraft to roll out a network of hydrogen refuelling stations throughout Sweden. Although the companies did not disclose the station’s capacity, H2 View understands it is equipped for refuelling at both 350 bar and 700 bar, serving heavy-duty transport as well as passenger vehicles. “With the opening of this station, we are jointly taking an important step towards clean and sustainable mobility in Sweden,” explained Rob Castien, Resato CEO. “Our Swedish partner Euromekanik has been a constant source of support, standing side-by-side with us throughout the entire journey.” [...]

H2-View News: Morocco-China partnership could deliver world’s cheapest green ammonia, summit hears

By combining Morocco’s renewable energy potential with China’s capacity to finance and deliver major projects, Morocco could emerge as a leader in green hydrogen and the world’s lowest-cost producer of green ammonia. That was a key message at the World Power-to-X Summit in Marrakech, where industry leaders said green hydrogen costs could fall to $1.87/kg. H2-View News: Dutch government backs Tata Steel with €2bn for green hydrogen transition

The support comes as part of a €4bn–€6.5bn ($4.2bn–$6.8bn) package backing a shift to gas-based direct reduction technology, while also exploring carbon capture and biomethane. According to a joint letter of intent signed with the Dutch government and the Province of North Holland, the first phase of the programme will see one of the site’s two coal-fired plants replaced with plants fuelled by natural gas, before later switching to hydrogen. Steelmaking is one of the world’s most carbon-intensive industries, responsible for around 7% to 9% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The traditional blast furnace route releases around 1.6 to 2 [...]

H2-View News: Hydrogen UK warns scrapping Climate Change Act would kill investment

The Conservative Party has pledged to scrap the 2008 legislation and replace it with a strategy for “cheap and reliable energy.” Updated in 2019, the act set a legally binding target for the UK to reach Net Zero emissions by 2050. By binding governments to long-term decarbonisation, the act compels ministers to develop hydrogen as an alternative tool for cutting emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel and shipping. Policy mechanisms designed to mobilise investments and deliver projects, such as the Hydrogen Business Model and Net Zero Hydrogen Fund, have been driven by the act. Jackson stressed the legislation has [...]

H2-View News: German cabinet adopts Hydrogen Acceleration Act draft

The Federal Cabinet adopted the draft yesterday (October 1), and it will now be passed to the Bundestag and Bundesrat for debate and approval. Originally proposed by the previous government, the act would give hydrogen projects “overriding public interest” status until 2045, allowing legal priority for approvals. Currently, the main regulatory shifts in Germany include fast-tracking, litigation changes, digitalisation, and pipeline conversion. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) previously said the act would “clear deadlines, comprehensive requirements for digitalisation, and simplified procurement procedures.” H2 View understands that the act will cover the entire hydrogen supply chain, from [...]

H2-View News: UK government calls for evidence on hydrogen-to-power role in Capacity Market

Last December, the government pledged to create an H2P business model, based on a dispatchable power agreement (DPA) framework, and launched a call for early projects last April. The government is now asking industry how H2P plants should be categorised in the Capacity Market, whether as combustion units, blending projects, fuel cells or closed-loop systems, and what de-rating factors should apply to each. It is also seeking views on how reliability should be treated where plants have a natural gas back-up, as well as whether existing technology classes are sufficient or new ones are needed. The government said this will [...]

H2-View News: Ofgem backs underground hydrogen storage study in North Yorkshire

The Knapton H2 Storage consortium has been awarded Discovery funding by Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) to evaluate storage potential in the Knapton, North Yorkshire, area. Specifically, the study will investigate depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs, porous aquifers, salt deposits, and lined rock shaft options in the Vale of Pickering and the wider North Yorkshire region to assess the suitability of hydrogen storage. The consortium is also exploring how hydrogen storage could provide a clean backup fuel supply for nearby gas-fired plants. “Centrica’s Knapton site is being redeveloped as a clean energy hub for solar generation, green hydrogen production, and battery storage,” [...]
