H2-View News: Norsk e-Fuel unveils €1.5bn Finnish hydrogen-based eSAF plans

The two Nordic firms inked a memorandum of understanding that will see Norsk e-Fuel conduct a feasibility study for the eSAF project to be located next to Outokumpu’s stainless-steel mill in Tornio, Finland. Outokumpu would supply carbon monoxide side streams from its existing ferrochrome production as a feedstock to be combined with green hydrogen to produce 80,000-100,000 tonnes of eSAF. The project would be led by Norsk e-Fuel, drawing on its network for project development and financing. They estimate the project will cost €1.2bn-€1.5bn ($1.4bn-1.7bn). Subject to the feasibility study, the company anticipates taking final investment decision around 2028, with [...]

H2-View News: Forvia bets on China’s hydrogen momentum with Sinopec partnership

The company has secured a €40m ($47m) capital increase for its hydrogen-focused subsidiary in China, with a minority investment from Chinese state-owned Sinopec Capital. Sinopec will join as an industrial partner through its subsidiary, Chaoyang Hydrogen New Energy Venture Capital fund. Forvia currently manufactures Type 4 hydrogen storage tanks for vehicle applications across four production plants in Europe and Asia. Commenting on the announcement Ma Chuan, member of Forvia’s executive committee, said “This partnership will accelerate [Forvia’s] access to public and private markets, improve cost competitiveness, and consolidate [its] position as a key player in China’s energy transition”. Sinopec has [...]

H2-View News: EU weighs CBAM suspension for fertilisers, prompting warnings from clean ammonia firms

France and Italy are seeking temporary exemptions for fertilisers from the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) days after its launch, drawing warnings from clean hydrogen-based ammonia importers that the move could undermine competitiveness. CBAM, which entered force on 1 January, levies carbon emissions on imports, including steel and fertilisers, to level the playing field with European producers. H2-View News: UK membraneless electrolyser firm picks up Shell support

The non-exclusive deal will see Shell Global Solutions International pay for a technology feasibility study, evaluating aspects including performance data analysis and process safety assessment. Shell will also provide a techno-economic evaluation. The agreement builds on a relationship dating back to 2021, which later saw Shell Ventures lead Supercritical’s first £14m financing round in 2025. Luke Tan, CPO and co-founder of Supercritical, said the partnership marks a significant step in the company’s commercialisation roadmap, and that it is “directly addressing the cost and complexity barriers facing the renewable hydrogen market”. Supercritical says its “ultra-efficient” patented technology removes any dependency on [...]

H2-View News: EU hydrogen market set for non-RFNBO shift in 2026, analyst says

Europe’s hydrogen developers will largely turn their backs on costly green hydrogen compliance in 2026, with member states also expected to quietly drop industrial mandates. That’s the opinion of Wood Mackenzie in its 2026 predictions for the clean hydrogen market. H2-View News: Longi Hydrogen delivers first electrolyser system to Europe

The company delivered a 5MW pressurised alkaline system to an unnamed customer in Europe, with the unit “tailored” to meet the region’s regulatory requirements. Longi said the product was developed under ASME codes and certified to CE pressure equipment directive requirements, specifically to meet European regulations. It marks Longi’s broader push to position itself as a supplier for European hydrogen developers. The company’s President, Ma Jun, called Europe “one of the most secure markets for green hydrogen” and spoke of a future supporting Europe to build a “greener, more stable, and more resilient energy system.” Longi has been tying up [...]

H2-View News: US’s ‘first’ green hydrogen production, storage and combustion system comes online

The DeBary production storage system, located in Volusia County, Florida, uses an existing 74.5MW solar plant to power two 1MW electrolyser units, producing hydrogen stored on-site for use in a combustion turbine. By converting excess daytime solar power into hydrogen and storing it for later use, the system allows renewable energy to be dispatched when it is most needed, rather than when it is generated. During periods of peak electricity demand, the system delivers stored hydrogen to a gas turbine recently upgraded by Massachusetts-based GE Vernova, capable of running on natural gas-hydrogen blends or up to 100% hydrogen. Duke Energy [...]

H2-View News: Rheinmetall claims alkaline power density doubling with new electrodes

The achievement comes off the back of a German-funded research project carried out by the company’s KS Gleitlager subsidiary to develop “noble metal-free” electrodes. The E2ngel project saw KS Gleitlager work with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and now-bankrupt electrolyser maker McPhy to qualify the new technology. Rheinmetall said the DLR Institute of Technical Thermosystems tested several variants, while McPhy trialled them to ensure suitability for use in its alkaline electrolysers. It claims the innovation will reduce green hydrogen production costs by reducing capital costs, while also “doubling” power density and improving efficiency by more than 10%. This could tackle [...]

H2-View News: Moeve, Galp explore downstream tie-up spanning refining, hydrogen, fuel retail

The pair have reached a non-binding agreement to advance discussions on setting up joint platforms focused on refining, chemicals, trading, green molecules, low-carbon fuels, and mobility fuel. If approved, it would see two new platforms established: a mobility segment focused on fuel retail, convenience, and mobility services; and an industrial arm for refining, trading, chemicals, and low-carbon fuels, including biofuels and hydrogen. The companies expect to reach an agreement by mid-2026. “We have the opportunity to create major European players in Iberia,” said Galp Chair Paula Amorim. “This opportunity reinforces our ability to support and promote a just energy transition.” [...]
