H2-View News: Cost and simplicity to define the next phase of electrolyser manufacturing
The electrolyser sector’s next phase of deployment will hinge on cost reduction, modular design, and closer supply chain collaboration, marking a shift towards greater pragmatism across the industry. That was according to James Cropper’s Dr David Hodgson, Dr Daniel Gröbel of Hoerbiger, and Ohmium’s Paul Dainora during H2 View’s exclusive webinar. As the sector moves to commercial-scale, innovation priorities are cost, reliability, and collaboration. However, while capacity is increasing, investment decisions are slowing. H2-View News: Scottish hydrogen heating trial will ‘raise energy bills,’ says energy group
While the government-backed programme is set to go live this year, the independent group warned it will drive up UK energy bills and argued hydrogen should be reserved for industrial use. The project will see around 300 homes in Fife switch to hydrogen for heating, hot water, and cooking, representing the UK’s only remaining residential hydrogen trial after pilots in Whitby and Redcar were cancelled. Residents are being offered £1,000 and new appliances to take part. The HSC noted that the trial is taking place in one of Scotland’s most deprived communities, adding that Buckhaven residents have “not been given [...]
H2-View News: Finland to finalise hydrogen legislation by year-end
Until now, Finland has had to rely on adapting existing gas legislation. A dedicated hydrogen law will define how it’s regulated, who can own and operate pipelines, how access and pricing work, and how safety and environmental rules are applied. Arto Rajala of Finland’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment said at the recent Hydrogen Development Forum in Helsinki that the legislation will be completed by December 2025 and open for public consultation in January 2026. The legislation is expected to come into force in H2 2026. Officials are aiming to launch a framework that is both predictable for investors [...]
H2-View News: EU lauds South Africa green ammonia shipping potential
Referring to investments under the Global Gateway package, in the presence of South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, she said member states and the private sector were making a difference at ground level. “I am thinking, for example, of the Coega Green Ammonia project in Nelson Mandela Bay [in Eastern Cape Province],” she said. “With it, South Africa is on its way to becoming a global shipping hub as green ammonia becomes a clean maritime fuel of choice. With this investment, this is an enormous opportunity that is unfolding for South Africa.” The project is being developed by Hive Hydrogen, a [...]
H2-View News: Australia opens next phase of Hydrogen Headstart to drive large-scale projects
Until December 9, 2025, expressions of interest can be submitted in a bid to receive revenue support for large-scale hydrogen projects. Specifically, Arena is asking for project proposals that make green hydrogen production and use cheaper and more efficient. Developers can plan to do this through better plant design, improved electrolyser performance, smarter use of renewable power, or stronger infrastructure for key end uses such as ammonia, steel, alumina, and heavy transport. H2 View understands that successful projects are awarded a performance-based, 10-year production credit contract as part of the Future Made in Australia (FMIA) bill. “Arena is aiming to [...]
H2-View News: Hydrom partners with H2Global to develop auction model for Oman’s hydrogen exports
If the collaboration advances past the Memorandum of Understanding, H2Global intermediary Hintco will potentially contract Omani hydrogen producers under long-term purchase agreements, providing revenue certainty for large-scale projects. Produced hydrogen or derivative fuels, such as ammonia, would be sold under shorter-term contracts to buyers in Europe or Asia, with the price gap bridged through public or climate finance. Oman’s approach to hydrogen will be built on clear structures, long-term vision, and credible delivery, according to Abdulaziz Al Shidhani, Hydrom’s Managing Director. “Exploring models like H2Global allows us to test and refine our own systems, ensuring that as global mechanisms evolve, [...]
H2-View News: Storegga’s 70MW Speyside Hydrogen project rejected by council over environmental concerns
The government-backed Speyside Hydrogen initiative was rejected after councillors suggested environmental and community risks outweighed the economic and decarbonisation benefits of the plans. H2 View understands that opponents said water scarcity and ecological risks were inadequately addressed, raising concerns over River Spey abstraction and biodiversity. Speyside’s Hydrogen Opportunity Manager Christina Smitton reportedly opposed this, suggesting the Marypark site was “ideally placed” and that the proposed water use was minimal at just 0.05% of the Spey’s flow. Adversaries also pointed to limited local benefits – just 30 new jobs, according to Storegga – as community and fisheries groups joined in opposition, [...]
H2-View News: Poland allocates over $500m to boost domestic hydrogen projects
The non-repayable loans, provided under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), will finance electrolyser installations and related infrastructure, with a minimum capacity of 20MW. Beneficiaries aiming to produce low-emission hydrogen or in line with the EU’s rules for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO). Polish oil and gas firm Orlen SA will receive the most financial backing with PLN 1.2bn ($293m). Meanwhile, other recipients included PLN 523m ($128m) for Lotos Green H2, Tauron Inwestycje with PLN 127.8m ($31m), PLN 123m ($30m) for Promet-Plast SC, and Bioagra with PLN 127.6m ($31m). Specifically, Orlen and Lotos are expected to use the funding to expand electrolyser capacity and [...]
H2-View News: Stadler to deliver two hydrogen trains to Ferrovia Circumetnea in Sicily
The Swiss OEM’s narrow-gauge hydrogen units will run across Mount Etna’s volcanic terrain, bringing FCE’s total orders of Stadler trains for the Italian market to 19. Under the contract, Stadler could supply a further 13 vehicles of the same type. The initial supply order also includes five years of full service and technical spare parts. The vehicles will be designed and built at Stadler’s Bussnang headquarters and feature a central power pack unit containing the fuel cells and hydrogen tanks. They will also feature a lightweight design of under 11 tonnes per axle to ensure the trains can run safely [...]
H2-View News: FIA Extreme H launches hydrogen-powered World Cup in Saudi Arabia
The competition will take place until October 11 in Qiddiya City, Riyadh, and will see 16 drivers compete in off-road fuel cell-powered vehicles across eight teams. Every team must field one male and one female driver in time trials, head-to-head duels, and multi-car battles, finishing in an eight-car final. Extreme H, formally Extreme E, signed an agreement with the FIA last year to transition the championship into a World Cup format over one weekend. Extreme E ended its 2024 race calendar early as it focused its attention on the 2025 hydrogen-fuelled season. Hoped to underline motorsport’s “vital role” as a [...]
