H2-View News: Demand concerns take gloss off Namibia’s hydrogen drive
The implications for Namibia’s export model could be severe. RWE and Hyphen Hydrogen Energy (Hyphen) had signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2022, that would have seen RWE offtake up to 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year from Namibia. The news has taken some of the gloss off Namibia’s recent hydrogen drive. The official opening of Cleanergy Solutions Namibia’s green hydrogen production and refuelling facility in Walvis Bay was recently presided over by Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare. Billed as the first integrated green hydrogen plant in Africa, the site brings together solar-powered electrolysis, a hydrogen refuelling [...]
H2-View News: EU must scale hydrogen trucking and refuelling to hit €8/kg by 2030: GHMA
The Global Hydrogen Mobility Alliance (GHMA) claims hydrogen trucking can reach €8/kg by 2030, a level that would bring it close to cost parity with diesel and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). But Europe must abandon the pilot mentality and back large-scale liquid hydrogen stations with flexible early sourcing for that to happen. H2-View News: Regulatory uncertainty clouds EU–Oman hydrogen trade, Minister says
For all the talk about relaxing green hydrogen production requirements in Europe, Oman’s Minister for Energy and Minerals had a different message for European Hydrogen Week: stop changing the rules. Salim Bin Nasser Al Aufi took his keynote opportunity at the event to spell out the steps his government had been taking to facilitate large-scale hydrogen production in the Gulf nation. From supporting project logistics, allocating land, building common infrastructure and more, Hydrom – Oman’s hydrogen ‘orchestrator’ – is looking to meet the Sultanate’s goal of producing one million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. H2-View News: Bosch to axe 13,000 jobs amid €2.5bn shortfall at Mobility division
To plug a €2.5bn ($2.9bn) annual shortfall in the company, Bosch plans to cut as many as 13,000 jobs globally. The German engineering and technology company claimed demand for newly commercialised hydrogen technologies is failing to materialise at the pace needed. It also pointed to the collapse in diesel demand, sluggish global vehicle markets, weak uptake of electromobility and automated driving, and fierce price competition. Bosch’s sites in Feuerbach and Homburg, where fuel cells and hydrogen injection systems are produced, have been left with underutilised capacity – a problem the company blames on lagging infrastructure and regulation. “Demand for the [...]
H2-View News: ‘Do a U-turn now’: EU hydrogen leaders call for new, pragmatic bloc strategy
European hydrogen leaders are calling on policymakers to quickly adopt a new EU strategy underpinned by regulatory simplicity and offering lead markets, or risk losing strategic advantage. In a press conference today (30 September), the heads tech manufacturers, vehicle OEMs, and energy providers said Europe was at a “geopolitical turning point” which underscored the need for a “hydrogen-based resilience strategy”. “Europe must produce, store, and refine much of its own fuels while strengthening its strategic partnerships to diversify its energy imports,” said Hydrogen Europe CEO Jorgo Chatzimarkakis. H2-View News: Repsol greenlights €300m, 100MW green hydrogen plant in Cartagena
Representing over €300m ($352m) of investment, the electrolyser plant is expected to produce 15,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Repsol is expected to use the hydrogen to decarbonise its industrial processes. Enagás Renovable holds a 25% stake in the project, adding to its portfolio of nearly 20 hydrogen projects under development in Spain. The European Commission and the Spanish government have recognised the initiative as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), with €155m ($135m) in funding allocated through the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE). The company said it is the Iberian Peninsula’s largest producer [...]
H2-View News: ‘Hydrogen cannot be the next solar PV,’ Agfa CEO warns as new Zirfon plant opens
Agfa-Gevaert has officially opened its newly expanded alkaline electrolyser membrane plant in Belgium, while urging policymakers to accelerate Europe’s green hydrogen rollout. The EU-backed plant at the speciality materials firm’s headquarters in Mortsel has been designed to manufacture enough of its Zirfon membranes to support 20GW of electrolysis annually. H2-View News: Germany targets SMEs with second funding round for global hydrogen projects
Launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), the funding will be focused mainly on small and medium-sized German enterprises (SMEs), developers, and technology suppliers that are looking to partner outside the EU and Switzerland. The funding is expected to cover two areas. Module one, led by the Economics Ministry, will support hydrogen and derivative production plants abroad, while Module 2, led by the Research Ministry, will fund related research, trials, and training. However, Dedicated support for storage and transport infrastructure has been dropped in this round, though such measures could still be included as part of [...]
H2-View News: Green Navy and Seco Marine seal long-term deal for hydrogen vessel systems
The two companies will combine electric drive with hydrogen fuel cells, collaborating on the design, engineering, integration and certification of the “H2-ready” systems for passenger, cargo, and mixed-use catamarans. Under the long-term agreement, Brittany-based Green Navy will provide vessel design, project management, and upstream expertise. Meanwhile, the Fétis Group company, Seco Marine, will act as the integrator, handle electric systems, hydrogen safety, commissioning, and long-term maintenance. H2 View understands that the agreement is exclusive and reciprocal, guaranteeing both firms a sustained role in the commercial rollout of hydrogen-powered catamarans. “We already have a number of orders in the pipeline, and [...]
H2-View News: OMV partners with Siemens Energy and Strabag on 140MW green hydrogen plant
Siemens Energy will supply the electrolysis technology, lead the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) consortium, and contribute its plant construction expertise, while Strabag will handle all civil works. The German technology company will oversee technical planning and supply key components, including electrolysis stacks, transformers, rectifiers, and compressors to produce hydrogen from renewable power for the project. However, when OMV announced the final investment decision (FID) in May, it stressed that the project remained conditional on subsidies. The company has since advanced the process and is now finalising a funding agreement with Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws), the national body handling the [...]
