H2-View News: UK HyRES awards £3m to advance hydrogen-based innovation projects
Handed out through the university’s UK Hub for Research Challenges in Hydrogen and Alternative Liquid Fuels (UK HyRES), the funding is expected to support the development of hydrogen technologies in the country. “This gives UK HyRES a comprehensive base of top-tier research expertise to help answer the key questions around how we can use hydrogen and zero-carbon alternative liquid fuels to help reach Net Zero,” said Professor Tim Mays, commenting on the funding. UK HyRES received £11m ($11.4m) from the UK Government through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2023 to support the programme. Regarding the new wave [...]
H2-View News: Sungrow secures electrolyser deal for Oman green ammonia project
Under a supply agreement with ACME Group, the Chinese electrolyser manufacturer will provide multiple sets of 1000Nm3/hr of alkaline equipment, which they expect to deliver this year. ACME has stated that the green ammonia project will begin operations in 2026, initially producing up to 300 tonnes per day of the the green hydrogen carrier. Last January, ACME announced it would deliver up to 100,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia to Yara Clean Ammonia from its Oman facility. H2-View News: US inauguration: world waits on US clean tech and tariff policies
Donald Trump will be sworn in as US President today (January 2o), signalling his second term as President. Geopolitically, economically and environmentally, it promises to be a pivotal four years for the Republican administration. Here we assess the key issues for the US and abroad, and what they mean for the hydrogen, energy and industrial gases sector. Regional and global tariffs On November 25, President-elect Trump pronounced via social media that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on all products imported into the US from Canada and Mexico, among other countries, as one of his first executive orders. This [...]
H2-View News: Clean Hydrogen Partnership launches €184.5m call for proposal to boost European supply chain
Entering its technology upscaling phase, the partnership will fund projects to achieve cost-effective green hydrogen production, develop hydrogen storage solutions or deliver reliable and scalable fuel cell systems for heavy-duty vehicles and maritime applications. Up to €80m will be allocated to the Hydrogen Valleys initiative; €40m ($41.2m) for renewable hydrogen production; €16m ($16.4m) for hydrogen storage and distribution; €17m ($17.5m) for transport applications; €5m ($5.2m) for heat and power; and €6.5m ($6.7m) for cross-cutting activities. Applications are to be submitted via the EU’s Funding and Tenders portal by April 23, 2025. Commenting on the 2025 budget, Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, Executive Director [...]
H2-View News: Green Hydrogen Systems’ restructuring costs double beyond original estimates
The firm now expects to incur costs of DKK 215m ($29.6m) to 230m ($31.7m) after originally estimating DKK 100 ($13.8m) to 150m ($20.7m). As a result, GHS has adjusted its FY2024 guidance to DKK -485m (-$66.9m) to -500m (-$69m) increasing from DKK -300m (-$41.4m) to -400m (-$55.2m). Excluding the restructuring costs, it said EBITDA would be DKK -260m (-$35.8m) to -275m (-$37.9m) from DKK -220m (-$30.3m) to -260m (-$35.8m). The company says the additional costs were expected to be incurred in 2025 rather than Q4 2024, in addition to “initiatives to secure faster implementation of the actions in the combined [...]
H2-View News: H2SITE closes €36m funding round to scale hydrogen and ammonia technologies
The additional financing will help H2SITE meet its next industrialisation and commercialisation milestones, including multi-tonnes per day hydrogen production capacity in operation by 2026 and addressing ammonia cracking and natural hydrogen markets. The Bilbao-based firm has been developing membrane reactor technology since 2021, which enables hydrogen separation from gas streams and green molecules, such as ammonia or methanol. H2-View News: US awards $25m for heavy-duty hydrogen refuelling station at Port Houston
The Department of Transport (DOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) granted the funding to the Port of Houston Authority, as part of a collaboration with Linde and other players. The Bayport HRS project plans to offer high fuelling throughout with “convenient and publicly accessible fuelling options.” Linde will be responsible for the station’s design, construction, ownership and operation. Although details have not been revealed about the station’s potential capacity, the partners believe it will support the port’s Net Zero by 2050 plans. “This project exemplifies Port Houston ‘walking the talk’ of sustainability and Net Zero,” said Port Houston Chief [...]
H2-View News: MorGen begins construction of hydrogen refuelling station in Hallstadt
The refuelling station, which will open this spring (2025), will offer green hydrogen at 350 and 700 bar pressure levels to service light and heavy-duty vehicles, buses, and passenger cars. The Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy announced it would support MorGen’s development at the Cleantech Innovation Park, which is strategically located near the A70 and A73 motorways. H2 View understands that green hydrogen will be sourced from regional production facilities. The refuelling station will be located approximately 167km south of the German hydrogen core network checkpoint in Erfurt. Read more: Germany’s 9,000km hydrogen gamble: Will [...]
H2-View News: Plug Power finalises $1.66bn DOE loan guarantee for six hydrogen plants
The loan guarantee from the DOE’s Loan Programs Office (LPO), initially announced in May, will be welcome news for Plug Power. It could enhance the company’s access to capital by reducing financing risks, as the government will act as a guarantor for a substantial portion of the debt associated with these projects. The firm says a planned hydrogen plant in Graham, Texas, will be the first to benefit from the financing. Expected to be powered by an adjacent wind farm, the plant will use Plug’s electrolyser technology, liquefaction and storage systems, adding to its current US liquid hydrogen production capacity [...]
H2-View News: California withdraws waiver request for diesel truck phase-out
CARB withdrew the waiver request for the Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) rule on January 13, which would have seen the phase-out of new diesel-powered semi-trucks and buses by 2036. Additionally, CARB proposed to ban the use of locomotive engines older than 23 years by 2030 to decarbonise the freight rail system and introduce new zero-emission technologies. However, after the EPA failed to approve the acts in time, which were opposed by industry members due to costly mandates, CARB pulled the waiver. It comes ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday (January 20), which has sparked various climate backtracks from [...]
