H2-View News: EU nuclear push opens door for more pink hydrogen
Direct, large-scale pink hydrogen production in Europe is currently very limited, as the industry is still in its pilot and policy-alignment phase. Over 95% of European hydrogen is still produced from fossil fuels, primarily through steam methane reforming. Speaking at the Nuclear Energy Summit, President Ursula von der Leyen pledged €200m to support private investment in nuclear technologies and unveiled a new European strategy for small modular reactors with the aim that they are operational by the early 2030s. Funding will come from the Emissions Trading System. “After years of declining investment, we need more to turn the tide,” she [...]
H2-View News: Bosch reveals new fuel cell system for hydrogen-powered buses
The engineering major will reveal the system, available in three different power variants, at an event in Berlin. According to Bosch, the systems will be suitable for buses between 12 and 18 metres long with the 100kW and 190kW iterations suited to intercity buses and coaches and the 300kW module appropriate for heavy-duty transport. The 190kW variant is set for testing in the first half of 2026. Jan-Oliver Röhrl, Chairman of Bosch’s global commercial vehicle activities, said the new propulsion system could work in conjunction with battery electric buses to help decarbonise transport. This comes as EU green hydrogen usage [...]
H2-View News: Heidelberg Materials completes UK hydrogen-fuelled asphalt trial
The Criggion trial came under the UK government’s Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator programme and received part-funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). Hydrogen was used to replace liquid fossil fuels to produce more than 1,300 tonnes of asphalt, without any impact on the quality or performance of the material. The project demonstrated hydrogen as a viable alternative to fossil fuels in asphalt production, achieving a 76% reduction in Scope 1 (direct) emissions, equating to a 23% reduction in the overall carbon footprint of the asphalt produced. The source and volume of hydrogen used in the trial were [...]
H2-View News: EU confirms ReFuelEU Aviation SAF mandates will not be weakened
Proposed by the European Commission in 2021, the ReFuelEU Aviation framework is part of the EU’s “Fit for 55” climate package, which aims to cut EU greenhouse-gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. The regulation is designed to support the scale-up of low-carbon aviation fuels, including eSAF produced using renewable hydrogen. In an announcement, the EU’s transport arm reaffirmed the penalties and obligations outlined in the ReFuelEU Aviation initiative after reports they may be scrapped. The post follows policy discussions around the need for clear penalties for missing fuel quotas under the mandates, which dictate that at least 10% [...]
H2-View News: Grid constraints halt Hy2Gen 270MW green ammonia project in Norway
The Iverson eFuels plant had been expected to produce 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year by 2030, but was cancelled amid uncertainty over when new grid capacity could become available. Norwegian grid operator Statnett withdrew the project’s power allocation in late 2025, but Iverson eFuels only confirmed the project’s cancellation this month (March). “Statnett has stated that new capacity may only become available once the upgraded grid is completed, expected in the period 2033–2035. At the same time, there is no guarantee as to when the upgraded grid will be ready,” Iverson eFuels said in a statement. Significant resources [...]
H2-View News: Swedish hydrogen-based e-methane project proceeds to pre-FEED
Renewable energy firm OX2, forestry association Södra, and project developer TES have entered the pre-front-end engineering (pre-FEED) phase for the project. One operational, the plant aims to produce around 86,000 tonnes of e-NG per annum by combining hydrogen produced onsite using renewable electricity with biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from Södra’s pulp mill at Värö. The project has secured SEK 16.8 million (€1.6m) in funding from Sweden’s Energy Agency and aims to be operational by the early 2030s. An offtake agreement with an unnamed energy major covering most of the facility’s production capacity has already been signed, according to the [...]
H2-View News: NSW backs $70m green hydrogen-ammonia project to decarbonise farming
The facility, planned for NSW’s town of Moree, will provide up to 4,500 tonnes of green ammonia to replace conventionally produced fertilisers. The project, set to receive AUD $45.2m ($31.7m) in NSW government funding, aims to launch by early 2027. It reached financial close in July 2025. A joint venture between Hiringa Energy and Sundown Pastoral Company dubbed the Good Earth Green Hydrogen and Ammonia project (GEGHA), it will produce green ammonia through an on-site electrolyser supplying around 225 tonnes of clean hydrogen per year. Details around the electrolyser and subsequent ammonia synthesis systems remain unclear. It will primarily supply [...]
H2-View News: European hydrogen confidence rises after key EU policy moves
Europe’s outlook on hydrogen has remained neutral since October 2025, but sentiment turned more positive in March. The shift coincided with major European policy decisions, including the EU’s rejection of calls to exempt fertilisers from its carbon border levies, and the European Commission’s Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) proposal. The index showed a swing from a balanced picture in December 2025 to stronger confidence in March, with 58% of European respondents saying they are confident in the growth and commercial viability prospects of the hydrogen value chain. Those expressing concern accounted for less than a quarter (23%) of European respondents. Conducted [...]
H2-View News: Chinese firm supplies electrolysers to Oman’s first green ammonia plant
The systems will produce hydrogen for Acme Group’s 100,000 tonnes-per-year green ammonia facility in the Duqm Special Economic Zone. The 80MW of electrolysers are set for deployment on the 80km2 site for the project’s first phase. When its second and third phases are completed, it is expected to produce up to 900,000 tonnes-per-year. In March 2024, Norwegian chemical company, Yara International, entered a non-binding agreement with ACME for the offtake of 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia tonnes-per-annum, the full annual production capacity of the project’s first phase This comes as Chinese manufacturers move into the global electrolyser market. Despite that [...]
