Without safeguards, hydrogen producers could potentially claim the highest level of tax credits ($3 per kilogramme) for producing ‘gray’ hydrogen from fossil natural gas, by blending in small amounts of biomethane or waste methane. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies will focus on the supply of Vale’s iron ore agglomerates to GreenIron’s commercial operations in Sandviken, Sweden, where hydrogen is being used to produce iron. Through a feasibility study, they will explore a suitable site for the Brazilian project, considering renewable energy and resource supply options. The 877km Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), connecting the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish border to Italy’s gas network, is exploring hydrogen integration to support capacity expansion, sustainability, and regional decarbonisation.
