Ceres Power has confirmed to H2 View that its 1MW solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) module demonstrator at Shell’s R&D site in India is set to be switched on “any week now.” Caroline Hargrove, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at UK-based Ceres, stated that the electrolyser module is “there and ready to go,” with the company now awaiting Shell’s completion of the balance of plant. The project, which reached final investment decision (FID) in December, will produce up to 11,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year for use in bp’s refining processes. Reportedly, the electrolysers have been designed to consume less power and operate with flexibility, while maintaining high performance and requiring minimal maintenance. The iShare Energy Storage and Hydrogen UCITS ETF (STOR) comes at a crucial time when investor confidence in hydrogen remains uncertain, reinforcing the need for stable, long-term backing in the sector. Launched this month (February), it has net assets of $5.12m as of February 10, 2025. The India National Hydrogen Mission has set a target of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 but H.E. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, said he thinks India “will do much better than that.” “I believe there will be such a shift to green hydrogen and work is going on at a frantic pace.
