H2-View News: JCB’s hydrogen combustion engine gains commercial approval across Europe
The UK-based construction firm can now sell the engine throughout Europe and has said that they expect other countries to follow suit with certification in 2025. The Netherlands’ vehicle authority RDW was the first to issue an official certification before licensing bodies in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Finland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein followed. © JCB JCB has already produced more than 130 evaluation engines which are powering backhoe loaders, loadall telescopic handlers and generator sets, whilst real-world testing of its equipment at customers’ sites is now at an advanced stage. “This is a very significant moment [...]
H2-View News: Safe S.p.A. to deliver hydrogen storage and distribution technology to Sicilian project
Under the agreement signed with Agrobiofert, a Sicilian agricultural company, S.p.A. will provide a 30-foot cabin containing two high-efficiency hydraulic compressors with “three combined compression stages,” designed to reach 450 bar. For the H2Farm project, the compressors will optimise the management of hydrogen produced. The project has been funded by PNRR resources and promoted by the Sicilian Region, with the ultimate goal being to build a 2.5MW plant for green hydrogen production, powered by PV. H2 View understands that delivery of the compressors is scheduled for late summer 2025, in line with the plant’s operational start. “Hydrogen is not only [...]
H2-View News: HEA urges GB Energy to lead UK hydrogen revolution through hubs and intermediary role
The Hydrogen Energy Association (HEA) has suggested that the UK government’s GB Energy should invest in inland hydrogen hubs, core industrial clusters, and ports to accelerate hydrogen trade. With the global hydrogen market expected to reach £700bn annually by 2050, HEA has stressed the importance for the UK to capture a 10% share to generate £70bn in revenue, £46bn in GVA, and 410,000 jobs. However, they’ve emphasised the need to act within a 10-year window. This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in if you are subscribed or subscribe today.

H2-View News: Protium raises over £30m to accelerate hydrogen project development in the UK
The funding round, led by existing investors Barclays Principal Investments and SWEN Capital Partners, with additional support from new investors ITOCHU Corporation and Toho Gas, will drive the progress of key projects, such as Pioneer 1 in Wales. Last April the British company announced it would develop a second hydrogen production facility in the UK following a successful first year of operating Pioneer 1. Pioneer 2 will boast a 2.5MW electrolyser and reportedly reduce 156,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. H2-View News: Hydrogen truck delivered to German logistics firm after ruling out electric vehicles
Based on a Mercedes Benz Actros chassis, the truck is equipped with a 7.8-litre Deutz six-cylinder in-line engine which, after conversion to hydrogen, generates an output of 210kW. The hydrogen engine has been combined with the Allison 3000 R transmission and zero-emission technology, which reportedly enables optimal integration with several energy sources. With the support of special-purpose vehicle conversion and construction company Paul Nutzfahrzeuge, KEYOU expects the vehicle to go into operation shortly. EP-Trans, located in Regensburg, Germany, has said the truck will serve an international steel group in Bavaria. In an online statement, KEYOU said the truck will offer [...]

H2-View News: Netherlands ‘must increase demand certainty’ for hydrogen
The European country must also secure investments in new electricity generation, reduce grid congestion and manage the transition away from natural gas, which has long been a cornerstone of its energy system, the IEA adds. The Netherlands has set an ambitious target of increasing capacity from 5 GW today to 35 GW by 2035 and 70 GW by 2050, along with a 3-4 GW hydrogen electrolysis capacity target by 2030, and the government has allocated up to €7.5bn in support. “This requires a stable framework for long-term offshore wind development in co-ordination with the build-out of hydrogen production, which will [...]
H2-View News: GH EnA partners with Utility to produce hydrogen from biogas in South Korea
Under a Commercial Agreement, the company wants to advance South Korea’s low-carbon hydrogen market, aligning with the nation’s Hydrogen Economy Roadmap. H2 View understands that the H2Gen reactors, based on Utility’s eXERO gas production technology, can produce hydrogen directly from biogas without the need for electricity or steam methane reforming (SMR). It is reportedly a more cost-effective solution with a significantly smaller footprint compared to traditional processes. The initial projects the two companies are set to deploy will be in Chuncheon, Taebaek, Hongcheon, Sokcho, Yangyang, Goseong and Inje. GH EnA will take the lead on the projects and supply the [...]
