H2-View News: Resato secures €25m EIB loan to scale its hydrogen refuelling solutions
The Dutch company, based in Assen, is expected to use the venture debt facility to boost the R&D of its refuelling technology and to support its goal of producing 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations by 2030. Furthermore, the expansion in the northern Netherlands could increase its workforce from 170 to up to 1,000 by the end of the decade, while fostering supply chain employment and addressing the demand for skilled personnel through its H2 Academy. The EIB loan has been supported by the European Commission under its InvestEU initiative. The Netherlands holds a 5.2% share in the EIB, which has invested [...]
H2-View News: Nel pauses alkaline electrolyser production in Herøya, announces layoffs
The longstanding hydrogen technology company said order intake in 2023 and 2024 “fell short of expectation” with several customer projects delayed or “at risk of being cancelled.” Furthermore, Nel said that a customer has failed to pay for delivered equipment, with payment now being more than a year overdue, and is undertaking a process to retain ownership of the equipment. This, it says, has resulted in a “limited need” to produce new alkaline electrolyser equipment in the near-term, and has temporarily halted production at its 1GW Herøya plant in Norway. In its Q3 2024 results, the electrolyser major saw a [...]
H2-View News: Avina completes FEED phase on 800,000 tonne clean ammonia facility
With a Final Investment Decision (FID) expected this year, the latest milestone represents the “first” announced the completion of FEED for a large-scale clean ammonia facility in the US. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) led the overall FEED effort for the 800,000 tonnes per year facility, whilst EXCEL led the constructability effort, leveraging their experience in executing similar ammonia plants in the Texas Gulf Coast region. Additionally, KBR previously helped secure the Basic Engineering Design (BED) package for the plant and they continued to support design activities to reach the FEED milestone. H2 View understands that the plant, set to become [...]
H2-View News: Storage and distribution make green hydrogen ‘prohibitively expensive’: study
A new academic paper has stressed that green hydrogen’s use will be much narrower than envisaged unless low-cost storage and distribution technologies can be achieved. The paper by Havard scientists said the current delivered prices of green hydrogen make it a “prohibitively expensive” option for carbon abatement across end-use sectors This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in if you are subscribed or subscribe today.
H2-View News: Nel secures $29m IRA tax credit boost for 4GW electrolyser factory in Michigan
The extra funding came as part of the Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Tax Credit (48C) programme, which is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and managed by the US Department of Energy, Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service. Nel has yet to make a final investment decision (FID) on its 4GW factory, which is expected to be worth $400m. In an online statement, the Norwegian company said the “build-out of the site depends on demand.” Announced in 2023, the facility is scheduled to produce both alkaline and PEM electrolyser technology. Its 4GW output would make it one [...]

H2-View News: McPhy slashes FY2024 revenue guidance amid project delays and refuelling exit
The hydrogen company said delays in the HyCC Djewels green hydrogen plant in the Netherlands, which it said, “has not been taken into account for 2024, as the parties are currently pursuing their discussions.” Previously expected to start construction in 2024, McPhy along with Technip Energies, was contracted to supply, design and construct a 20MW electrolyser plant for the project. Planned for Delfzijl, the plant is expected to produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for supply to OCI Methanol. Having secured €80m ($81.6m) of Dutch Government funding last July, the project was expected to start construction in 2024 ahead [...]
H2-View News: Hydrogen-powered trucking: Progress, pitfalls and the path to cost parity
As the hydrogen application funnel has narrowed, mobility advocates have been coining heavy-duty trucks as the frontier that will reap the benefits of hydrogen. Despite 2024 proving to be a year of hampered ambitions across various end-uses, truck firms appeared to make clear strides in deploying heavy-duty hydrogen-powered vehicles. The phoenix out of the ashes that is Nikola in October said that it had sold 235 of its Class 8 TRE FCEV trucks between Q4 2023 and Q3 2024. The firm also unveiled trials with the likes of DHL, Purina and Walmart. This is a paid article, to read the [...]

H2-View News: Belfort fire linked to electrical cause, not hydrogen buses: reports
Instead, an interview carried out by French media outlet Mobily-Cités with Yannick Monnier, Director of the Belfort Territory Transport Authority, suggested that initial analysis shows the fire was electrically generated, although Monnier added that it was too early to confirm. The Director reaffirmed the effectiveness of hydrogen-powered buses and the safety mechanisms on board. “All the safety systems on the hydrogen buses worked perfectly,” Monnier told the French media. “The flares that fed the fire came from burning plastics and other materials, unrelated to the hydrogen flames, which were quickly dissipated by the safety devices. “This incident will not question [...]
