H2-View News: Hydrogen key to industrial clusters growth

First launched at COP26 in 2021, and developed in collaboration with Accenture and EPRI, the Transitioning Industrial Cluster initiative now comprises 33 clusters in 16 countries. The 13 new members are: Kerala Green Hydrogen Valley (India): This zone in Kerala is central to India’s decarbonisation efforts by scaling hydrogen-powered transport. Cartagena Industrial Cluster (Colombia): Connected to the largest port-based industrial zone, this industrial cluster is uniquely positioned to become a strategic hub for the production, storage, distribution, shipping and use of clean hydrogen and low-carbon fuels. Gopalpur Industrial Park (India): Strategically located, the industrial park provides an exemplary ecosystem to [...]

H2-View News: Boeing backs Norsk e-Fuel’s hydrogen-based SAF plans

The aircraft giant hopes its investment will support the scaling of SAF production to meet EU mandates while also informing policy decisions to enable “the economic viability of the global SAF industry. Norsk e-Fuel currently has four e-fuel plants planned for the Nordics. The most advanced development, Project Mosjøen in Nesbruket, Norway, plans to produce 50 million litres of e-Crude and is currently in its basic engineering stage. The company will use a Power-to-Liquid (PtL) process to convert green hydrogen and recycled CO2 into SAF. “Our support of and collaboration with Norsk e-Fuel underscores the importance of using fossil-free energy [...]

H2-View News: Liquid Wind, TSE eye 100,000-tonne hydrogen-based e-methanol plant in Finland

The pair today (January 22) announced the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore building the plant next to TSE’s existing Naantali 4 power plant. Under initial plans, the pair intend to use biogenic CO2 and steam from the TSE power plant for e-methanol production in combination with green hydrogen. The plant’s process and waste heat could also be used for district heat. Eyeing a final investment decision (FID) for 2026, the companies expect to start production in 2029 to deliver e-methanol for industries such as shipping. “Locally, in the city of Naantali, we will focus on [...]

H2-View News: Norwegian Hydrogen acquires green hydrogen project from Aker Horizon and inks deal with Nel

As part of the deal, the green hydrogen producer will take over the existing power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Tinn Energi, to ensure the project has access to renewable energy. Additionally, Norwegian Hydrogen has entered into a Letter of Intent with electrolyser manufacturer Nel to deliver a pressurised alkaline electrolysis plant for the 25MW plant, which could be scaled up. However, Nel revealed last week that it will temporarily halt production of its alkaline technology in Herøya due to slow uptake. Read more: Nel pauses alkaline electrolyser production in Herøya, announces layoffs Commenting on the project, Jens Berge, the [...]

H2-View News: IH2A urges Indian Government to boost green hydrogen subsidies to $4.8bn

The industry coalition cited concerns about slow project development and the lack of green hydrogen offtake agreements, which could potentially undermine India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. To turn the tide, IH2A has recommended that the government issue demand-side incentives to industrial end-users in the industrial sectors – specifically refining, fertilisers, steel, chemicals, and heavy-duty transport sectors. It also calls for CAPEX subsidies to support project developers in building shared hydrogen infrastructure at hydrogen hubs nationwide. To support the plans, the IH2A suggests that the government should set up Green Hydrogen Development Corporations (GHDCs) to support project, hub and shared infrastructure [...]

H2-View News: IEEFA report tells utilities to rethink domestic hydrogen heating plans

That’s the scathing message from a new Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) report which told hydrogen producers that plan on relying on home heating as a market to “think again.” The report’s headline findings warn that hydrogen in homes poses health and safety risks, could delay electrification, would produce NOx and is also inefficient. “The future for hydrogen blending with natural gas for home heating and cooking is not bright, as the purported benefits are far from impressive and fail to stack up against the risks,” it reads. Citing several studies and real-world experiences, the report warns [...]

H2-View News: Nel to deliver 5MW of PEM electrolysers to unnamed steel producer in the US

Two 2.5MW MC500 electrolysers will be delivered to the undisclosed customer, which already uses two additional Nel electrolysers to generate hydrogen at two other sites in the US. The most recent order will be delivered from Nel’s manufacturing facility in Wallingford, Connecticut, to be used in a new steel mill in the US. Nel’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Todd Cartwright, said the order signifies the customer’s “satisfaction with the performance of [Nel’s] electrolysers.” Cartwright added, “We continue to see an increasing demand for our containerised PEM electrolysers for smaller installations as this reliable turn-key concept offers easy outdoor installation and [...]

H2-View News: Southern Hydrogen Corridor gains momentum with joint declaration signed in Rome

The initiative will establish a direct pipeline connection for gaseous hydrogen between North Africa, Italy, Austria and Germany, consisting of five sub-projects and spanning 3,500-4,000km. The respective transmission system operators (TSOs) are currently planning for the European segment to be 3,250km long, with 60-70% being repurposed natural gas pipelines. H2 View understands that this will enable the transport of up to 163TWh of green hydrogen annually to Europe. Following the signing of a JDoI, the next step for the consortium is to finalise plans for the hydrogen pipeline to North Africa, which is supported by the German Federal Ministry for [...]
