H2-View News: Analysis: What does Trump’s IRA and IIJA funding suspension actually mean for hydrogen?
President Donald Trump’s suspension of funding from two key pieces of Biden-era laws has cast uncertainty over the future of clean hydrogen development. On his first day in office, Trump issued an executive order to halt further funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which offered production tax credits of up to $3/kg and a combined $7bn of funding for seven hydrogen hubs, respectively. The acts will have their processes, policies and programmes for issuing funds reviewed, with department heads expected to issue recommendations to “enhance their alignment” with Trump’s oil and gas [...]
H2-View News: Freija launches FEED studies for hydrogen-based e-methanol project in Finland
The Norwegian company, based in Oslo, has selected a 150,000 square metre site in Nokia, the Tampere region, and has issued the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) programme report. The project will be based on a capex and opex efficient development concept and will be produced in up to three phases. Freija expects to take a final investment decision (FID) on the plant in 2026, with the first production earmarked for 2029. The aim is to produce e-methane from green hydrogen and biogenic CO2, with each phase producing 58,000 tonnes of green fuel per year. Furthermore, it will comply with the [...]
H2-View News: Verne reaches milestone with the first demonstration of CcH2-powered truck
The tests reportedly validated the density and dormancy benefits of CcH2 and the reliability and durability of the system under real-world operating conditions. The company’s CcH2 filling equipment was used too. In an online statement, Verne said, “These test results confirm the advantages of CcH2 relative to existing hydrogen storage methods, preparing Verne to commercialise the technology in various markets, beginning with hydrogen distribution.” During testing, the CcH2-powered truck was operated under relevant operating conditions and on rugged off-road terrain. Verne will now conduct hydrogen distribution pilots with key customers, before scaling up to full commercial hydrogen distribution operations. “Across [...]
H2-View News: Kent to deliver detailed engineering studies for EET’s hydrogen production plant
Under the contract, the energy services provider Kent will help deliver the low-carbon hydrogen production plant (HPP1) at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port. Kent has previously helped deliver the early development phases of HPP1. ENKA was awarded the EPC contract for the project earlier this month. Hakan Kozan, a Member of the Executive Committee from ENKA, claimed Kent’s “expertise and dedication” have been “invaluable throughout the development process.” Read more: Türkiye’s ENKA secures contract to build EET hydrogen production plant in North West England HPP1 is expected to have a production capacity of 350MW and capture over 600,000 [...]

H2-View News: Europe Clean Industrial Deal to launch in February
Speaking at Davos, Wopke Hoekstra, Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth, European Commission, said a major challenge is bridging climate action with competitiveness. “One of the key things we need to do is further enhance our competitiveness and make sure that decarbonisation is a growth strategy,” he said. “So that means focusing on two sectors. Firstly, heavy industry and difficult-to-abate, which is pivotal to the success of our continent, and as important, are the ‘new kids on the block’, the tech companies that have huge demand and are in dire need of shorter permitting periods and way less [...]
H2-View News: Levidian targets UAE flare gas for second hydrogen and graphene pilot plant
Dana Gas this week revealed it had made an undisclosed investment into the British tech firm and had been working to deploy its LOOP technology across its field operations. The LOOP technology uses electromagnetic waves to ionise methane into plasma to separate hydrogen and carbon in the form of graphene. Since September, the pair have been finalising the engineering and design of a pilot plant that could be deployed into Dana Gas’ operations later this year. Expected to be able to produce 1.5 tonnes of graphene per year, it is hoped the pilot plant will pave the way for the [...]
H2-View News: MIT taps natural hydrogen to redefine ammonia production
The team says the Earth’s naturally occurring heat and pressure could act as a “geochemical reactor” to produce large volumes of the hydrogen compound. The team found water – which carries a source of nitrogen and particles of metal catalyst – injected underground into areas of iron-rich subsurface rock reacted to produce hydrogen. That hydrogen then reacts with the nitrogen embedded in the water to make ammonia. Using a second well, the team says it could be able to pump the ammonia up to the surface. “We call this geological ammonia,” said MIT Professor of Material Science and Engineering, Iwnetim [...]
H2-View News: ECO2Fuel’s electrolyser turns CO2 into green fuels without hydrogen
The process combines CO2 and water in an electrolyser using renewable energy sources to trigger an electrochemical reaction to produce valuable fuels and chemicals, without the use of hydrogen. The German start-up assembled the stack at an electrolyser testing VITO site in Belgium and their next aim is to test it at a 1MW scale at an RWE site in Germany. They expect to do this by 2026, and the team are currently conducting extensive testing to ensure the system’s efficiency. Stack prototype © ECO2Fuel ECO2Fuel, funded by the EU under the Horizon Europe programme, has said the electrolyser improves [...]
H2-View News: MOUs handed out like confetti in the hydrogen market: Eternal Power
A €2.3bn ($2.4bn) non-binding offtake agreement highlights robust demand for Eternal Power’s hydrogen production, according to its Managing Director, who emphasised its significance compared to Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs). Last October, Eternal Power announced it would provide hydrogen to an unnamed offtaker in Germany from its production plant in Dummerstorf. The project is expected to become operational in 2028 and produce 9,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year.
