JCB’s Tim Burnhope has stressed the need for a “technology-neutral” approach in the mobility industry, as its hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) gains approval in over 10 European countries. The zero-emission passenger shuttle vessel will be used in La Forêt-Fouesnant in Brittany, France, although the project is currently in its initial production phase with only a concept ready. This development follows a 28% drop in the Arizona-based company’s shares on Thursday (January 23). Nikola is now exploring options such as bringing on strategic partners or raising additional funds to stabilise its operations, according to reports. In its Africa OPEX Report, the Energy Industries Council (EIC) highlights that, despite Africa’s vast renewable energy potential and promising outlook, the continent continues to grapple with securing reliable offtake agreements, developing a comprehensive regulatory framework, and constructing resilient infrastructure. The Belgian firm’s HRSGs are steam generators that recover heat from hot flue gases at the outlet of gas turbines. It has modified the heat recovery boiler design to allow the generators to operate with up to 100% hydrogen instead of fossil fuels. The system has now been certified for combined cycles and cogeneration applications, with drum-type and once-through boiler designs. President Donald Trump’s suspension of funding from two key pieces of Biden-era laws has cast uncertainty over the future of clean hydrogen development. On his first day in office, Trump issued an executive order to halt further funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which offered production tax credits of up to $3/kg and a combined $7bn of funding for seven hydrogen hubs, respectively. The Norwegian company, based in Oslo, has selected a 150,000 square metre site in Nokia, the Tampere region, and has issued the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) programme report. The project will be based on a capex and opex efficient development concept and will be produced in up to three phases.
