H2-View News: New project ratings agency targets low-carbon hydrogen FID bottleneck
The new system uses an “independent, standardised metric” to evaluate, compare and benchmark projects worldwide from pre- to post-production and covering different production pathways. It is hoped to provide users with project insights across commercial feasibility, the cost of producing low-carbon molecules and its emissions intensity. Each project is graded from A to F. Using proprietary AI, HySights says its analysts ensure data accuracy by processing private and public, primary and third-party sources. So far, the firm says it has completed over 50 project ratings globally, covering hydrogen, ammonia, e-fuels and e-methane, and “continuously adds to its portfolio of rated [...]
H2-View News: Exeter Airport to trial hydrogen-powered operations in UK Government initiative
Under the second round of the ‘Hydrogen Challenge’, Exeter Airport and its parent company, Regional and City Airports (RCA), will work with Cranfield University and TUI to test hydrogen storage and handling under different conditions and develop concepts for using locally produced hydrogen. This three-year stage of the Hydrogen Challenge is expected to drive advancements in hydrogen-powered aircraft in the UK, airport infrastructure and scientific research while conducting flight trials and safety assessments to refine the technology. “These trials will keep the UK on course to be a world leader in hydrogen propulsion,” claimed Tim Johnson, Director of Communications, Strategy [...]
H2-View News: HyLion network eyes 2028 launch for hydrogen-based e-methanol production in Scotland
In an initial pilot, located in Lockerbie, the goal is to use 63,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 per year to produce over 9,000 tonnes of hydrogen and 45,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually by 2028. The site is operated by E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions and will use biogenic CO2 that comes from its biomass power plant, whilst CO2 Recovery Ltd will capture, liquefy and store additional CO2 from the whisky industry. McPhy Energy will provide an 80MW electrolyser for hydrogen production, but the consortium has said the electrolyser capacity can be significantly and modularly expanded. © MHP H2 View understands that [...]
H2-View News: ZeroAvia secures FAA G-1 approval for 600kW hydrogen-electric aviation system
The Issue Paper defines the airworthiness regulations the system must meet and support ZeroAvia’s efforts to certify its full hydrogen-electric powertrain with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). By establishing these regulatory requirements, ZeroAvia is now able to validate its design and move forward in the approval process. CEO and Founder, Val Miftakhov said, “Certifying and selling our 600kW electric propulsion system helps ZeroAvia expand our addressable market and increase our impact in pursuit of a clean future of flight.” The CEO added, “With nearly 3,000 orders for our full powertrains and components, achieving a first certification will be a [...]
H2-View News: Germany’s SEFE secures 200,000-tonne annual green hydrogen offtake deal with ACWA Power
With a customer portfolio of 200TWh/year, SEFE will serve as a co-investor and prime off-taker of the deal and is likely to primarily distribute the hydrogen throughout Germany and into Europe via upcoming pipeline developments. Read more: Germany’s 9,000km hydrogen gamble: Will the Wasserstoff-Kernnetz pay off? Saudi-backed ACWA Power will act as the lead developer, investor and operator of green hydrogen and ammonia production assets. However, it hasn’t been revealed where exactly the 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen will be specifically supplied from. The NEOM Green Hydrogen Project, the world’s largest green hydrogen development, is a cornerstone of its portfolio [...]

H2-View News: Queensland Govt. pulls support for 2.2GW green hydrogen project: reports
The Central Queensland Hydrogen Project (CQ-H2), being developed by Stanwell Corporation, plans to install at least 640MW of electrolysis to produce green hydrogen for local industry and export markets. Despite securing federal backing, H2 View understands that Queensland’s government, headed by Liberal David Crisafulli, rejected an AUD $1bn ($614m) funding request from Stanwell through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Sources have reportedly told local news outlets that over 140 people have been laid off from the CQ-H2 project, which was expected to reach a final investment decision (FID) this year. Speaking to Sky News Australia, Nationals MP Colin Boyce, [...]
H2-View News: Baker Hughes, Hanwha to develop 16MW ammonia turbines for shipping and power
Under a Joint Develop and Collaboration Agreement (JDCA), Baker Hughes, Hanwha Power Systems and Hanwha Ocean said the new small-size gas turbine would primarily be used for vessel propulsion systems. By combining Baker Hughes’ turbine technology and Hanwha’s ammonia combustion system, the firms plan to complete a full engine test with ammonia by the end of 2027, before making 16MW turbines commercially available. Hanwha has already successfully tested a proof-of-concept combustor with 100% ammonia, while Baker Hughes completed its initial turbine feasibility studies in 2024. “We believe fuel switching to ammonia will play a key role in achieving significant emissions [...]
H2-View News: EU Chile interim trade agreement enters into force
The ITA, which was signed in December 2023, is of key geopolitical importance and aims to boost the competitiveness of businesses on both sides, while providing a shared platform for the development of Net Zero economies. The work will be further underpinned by ongoing initiatives under the Global Gateway, such as the production of green hydrogen in Chile – the third biggest EU trading partner in Latin America – and development of critical raw materials value chains for lithium and copper. The agreement will enable the EU and Chile to cooperate as ‘like-minded, lasting partners on global challenges’, such as the de-risking of [...]
