H2-View News: Chinese electrolysers alone don’t move the needle on costs: Splitwaters

Splitwaters’ CEO claimed its integrated electrolyser and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model cuts CAPEX by up to 30%, offering a cost-effective alternative to Chinese electrolysers that require separate engineering services. “China is generally the lowest-cost producer,” explained CEO Deepak Bawa. “But you have to make sure you commission [an electrolyser] the right way. So quality is a big deal here and where I think all of the right suppliers are going to flourish. H2-View News: Cummins quiet on hydrogen but expands batteries post-Accelera overhaul

Cummins has yet to reveal how its Accelera restructuring will impact hydrogen manufacturing. However, the firm appears more bullish on battery technology than hydrogen. On Tuesday (February 4), the US engine manufacturer revealed it had logged $312m in restructuring charges during Q4 2024 as it aimed to optimise its Accelera operations and investments during a slowdown in demand. H2-View News: CEO switch: What now for Air Products on hydrogen?

The appointment of former Linde executive Eduardo Menezes as Air Products’ new CEO marks a significant turning point for the industrial gas giant – one that could reshape its approach to clean hydrogen. Menezes’ leadership follows an investor-driven board shake-up led by Mantle Ridge, which ousted longtime boss Seifi Ghasemi amid concerns over CAPEX and the company’s $15bn clean hydrogen pipeline. H2-View News: Cummins takes $312m hit amid Accelera hydrogen business restructure

The engine manufacturer said it had conducted a strategic review of its Accelera segment, which produces electrolysers and fuel cells, to streamline operations and refocus investments on the most promising opportunities. In its Q4 2024 results, Cummins announced plans to consolidate “certain manufacturing efforts,” prioritise its strongest business areas, rely on more partners and reduce spending in certain technologies, joint ventures and markets. Cummins has not revealed which parts of Accelera are impacted by the cuts. H2 View has reached out for clarification. As a result of the measures, the firm incurred non-cash charges during Q4 from inventory write-downs, as [...]

H2-View News: Material selection key to preventing degradation in hydrogen CCUS: whitepaper

That’s the takeaway from a new whitepaper by Greene Tweed, hosted on h2-view.com, which says for industries relying on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), choosing the right material formulation can mitigate chemical degradation, improve equipment longevity and reduce maintenance costs. Most CCUS systems currently in operation use chemical absorption with amine-based solvents to capture CO2 from flue gases. While well-established, efficient and widely used in blue hydrogen production from steam methane reforming (SMR), amines are corrosive and can cause irreversible damage to system components such as seals. “Chemical effects can account for up to 30% of all field failures [...]

H2-View News: Trade bodies call for EU hydrogen ‘reality check,’ urge loosening of green rules

Hydrogen, derivative and e-fuel trade bodies are calling on EU policymakers for a ‘reality check’ on the bloc’s hydrogen policy to tackle challenges that undermine 2030 production and consumption targets. In a joint statement, the associations say a large gap between “strategic and political vision” and “market reality,” slow electrolyser capacity development, non-competitive clean hydrogen production costs and more could compromise the EU’s targets.
