H2-View News: Australian Senate passes green hydrogen tax credits as uncertainty rises
As part of the Future Made in Australia (FMIA) Bill, the 10-year tax credit will be available for green hydrogen producers between 2027/28 and 2039/40, aimed at bridging the cost with fossil fuels. Passage through the Senate will allow the Australian Government to implement the act and create the hydrogen production incentives. Under the proposed legislation, projects looking to secure the credits will need to take final investment decision (FID) before July 2030 – with no funds being released until the projects begin producing hydrogen. In addition to the specific hydrogen incentives, similar measures are available for critical minerals. “This [...]
H2-View News: JM restructures leadership as investor scrutiny forces hydrogen business rethink
Former DS Smith finance boss Richard Pike has already started in a CFO ‘Designate’ role and will work alongside the firm’s existing CFO Stephen Oxley until March 31 to ensure an “orderly transition.” Pike’s financial experience is expected to support JM’s transformation strategy, focused on cash generation, higher returns on capital and sustainable shareholder value. JM has also started a search for its next Chair after Patrick Thomas, who has held the position for almost seven years, said he will not seek re-election and will step down from the board after the firm’s AGM in July. “It is now the [...]
H2-View News: University of Nottingham to launch hydrogen propulsion lab in 2026
Located at its Jubilee Campus, the lab will research high-power testing of propulsion systems for the transport industry. It will be connected to the “megawatt-class” testing facilities and “world-leading” researchers of the adjacent Power Electronics and Machines Centre (PEMC). It will feature cryogenic test capabilities and environmental chambers suitable for altitude testing while enabling the testing of gaseous hydrogen, ammonia and other green fuels. The facility is expected to be operational by mid-2026. H2 View reported last year that up to £70m ($88m) was secured via Research England’s UKRPIF and industry co-investment. “A new hydrogen lab for the East Midlands [...]
H2-View News: Analysis: Hydrogen’s tech expansion at all-costs approach is over
The challenges facing hydrogen technology manufacturers have been mounting in the past two years. Projects are being delayed and scrapped, financing options are dwindling, and appetites are waning. This phase has consequently seen a growing number of companies take drastic steps to survive – divestments, job cuts, and reductions in manufacturing capacity. H2-View News: GVP’s single tank solution slashes hydrogen transport costs by 40%
Gas Vessel Production’s (GVP) single large tank approach can offer 40% cost reductions compared with traditional compressed hydrogen transport methods. Speaking on an H2 View webinar today, Oksana Pilatova, Co-founder & CEO at GVP Group, said the European company can offer a “game-changing” solution with its high-pressure tank, which she said is the largest in the world. Traditional cylinders used today for large-scale gas transport rely on multiple element gas containers with up to 15 small cylinders, whereas GVP replaces these with a single large tank.
H2-View News: Air Products receives planning approval to build 300MW hydrogen facility at Port of Immingham
The Immingham Green Energy Terminal (IGET), located on England’s east coast, will import ammonia and crack it into green hydrogen for use in the UK. The facility will be designed to handle 292 vessels per annum, with 12 of these anticipated for the delivery of ammonia. In addition to being the first customer of the port, Air Products plans to construct a large-scale 300MW green hydrogen production facility at the terminal’s west site. H2 View understands that the industrial gas giant will import green ammonia from Saudi Arabia, likely the 2.2GW NEOM initiative. The green energy terminal will also house [...]
H2-View News: ACWA Power to install high-efficiency Hysata electrolysers in Saudi Arabia
H2 View understands that the Australian firm will provide the Saudi-state-backed company with its capillary-fed electrolysers (CFE). Hysata’s electrolysers significantly boost efficiency, increasing from 75% in existing commercial models to 95% (41.5kWh/kg of hydrogen), and they’re coupled with a simplified balance of plant that “further reduces costs.” In ACWA Power’s press statement, they said, “This key collaboration will bring together ACWA Power’s world-leading experience and Hysata’s cutting-edge high efficiency electrolyser technology. “This initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, strengthening the Kingdom’s leadership as a global hub for green hydrogen innovation.” Earlier this week, ACWA Power confirmed that it will [...]
H2-View News: PAC warns £22bn UK hydrogen & CCUS bet could raise taxpayer bills
Last October, the government confirmed funding would be provided over 25 years to boost blue hydrogen and CCUS in Teesside and Merseyside. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said it will “give the industry the certainty it needs.” Read more: UK commits £22bn to boost blue hydrogen and CCUS in Teesside and Merseyside However, the PAC’s recent report, published today (February 7), has said the UK Government’s backing of unproven, first-of-a-kind carbon capture technology to reach Net Zero is high risk and more work on the programme’s affordability for taxpayers and consumers is needed. With no examples of CCUS technology operating at [...]
H2-View News: Natural hydrogen exploration company Mantle8 secures €3.4m
Backed by Kiko Ventures and Breakthrough Energy Ventures Europe (BEV-E), with additional participation from “prominent angel investors,” Mantle8 has said the $0.80/kg price can “revolutionise the clean energy market.” By 2030, the 2024 startup aims to find 10 million tonnes of natural hydrogen to complement EU goals. However, the geology team has yet to disclose specific locations about the exact countries or regions of their operations. H2 View understands that the firm will actively explore natural hydrogen deposits in regions where iron-rich mantle rocks are present. Mantle8 has said its technology is “scalable for the assessment and exploration of the [...]
