H2-View News: Top hydrogen groups warn EU scale-up ‘will not happen’ without policy reforms
In an open letter to Commissioners, the Hydrogen Council, Hydrogen Europe, the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition and the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE) said without their recommendations, clean hydrogen’s scale up “will not happen.” They stressed that “market activation measures” should set binding targets for the use of sustainable products, such as green steel or green ammonia, in state-funded projects. “Market activation should help bridge the cost gap to make sustainable products cost-competitive with polluting alternatives,” it reads. The bodies also call for streamlined funding instruments for “scale, simplicity and speed.” “Launching the most mature [...]
H2-View News: Sierra Space completes hydrogen-powered engine testing for US space missions
Research Laboratory (AFRL) was aimed at continuing to mature upper stage engines to fulfil future National Security Space Launch (NSSL) missions. NSSL missions are intended to assure the US Department of Defence (DOD) access to space. The US Air Force has been in the process of selecting its next generation NSSL vehicles since 2018. VR35K-A uses a fuel-rich staged combustion cycle, turbopump architecture and Sierra Space’s patented VORTEX combustion chamber technology to produce 35,000 lbf of thrust. The Californian test programme followed a similar campaign in 2024 at the company’s Badger Propulsion Test Facility in Wisconsin, where it says it [...]
H2-View News: Solaris starts delivery of 137 hydrogen buses to Bologna
The Urbino 12 buses, delivered to Emilia-Romagna transport operator TPER, mark the first batch of vehicles to arrive in the region off the back of a 2023 order. Once complete, the fleet will be made up of two configurations of the bus model: 70 three-door for urban routes and 67 two-door for city and suburban journeys. Powered by a 70kW fuel cell and 37.5kg of hydrogen storage, the buses offer zero-emission and quiet operation. The deployment comes off the back of a partnership between TPER, city authorities and Solaris, with the vehicles’ investment co-financed by EU funds from Italy’s Recovery [...]
H2-View News: Green hydrogen becoming ‘mainstream narrative’ in India
Reiterating comments he made at the opening ceremony yesterday, that the five million tonnes green hydrogen production target by 2030 is “very conservative”, he outlined the rapid growth in the industry since the National Hydrogen Mission was announced three years ago. With hydrogen buses in operation at the event, Puri was asked when they would be rolled out at scale. “I don’t know the timeline, but it will be faster than I can imagine,” he said. “Look at the last three years and you can we have gone from ideas to practical implementation.” The Minister said the hydrogen buses are [...]
