H2-View News: AFC Energy launches portable ammonia cracker at £10/kg hydrogen price

Whilst AFC Energy has not confirmed the carbon intensity of the hydrogen produced from the module, H2 View estimates it is likely to be grey hydrogen based on the pricing. AFC Energy had not responded to H2 View’s request for clarification at the time of publication. Hy-5 was announced during the company’s 2024 full-year financial results. AFC states it will be capable of producing up to 500kg/day once it’s available in 2026, offered as a plug-and-play under a ‘fuel as a service’ solution. At £10/kg, AFC’s hydrogen offering is significantly more competitive than GeoPura’s estimated costs for non-low carbon hydrogen standard production (£25.40/kg) and green hydrogen (£47.02/kg) in the [...]

H2-View News: France’s electricity concerns should not derail local hydrogen-based SAF ambitions: Verso Energy

That’s according to Antoine Huard, CEO of French e-fuel producer Verso Energy, who told H2 View that while policymakers generally support domestic e-SAF production, some are still considering import strategies, over concerns about power availability. “Two years ago in Le Bourget, President Macron confirmed France’s commitment to e-SAF development in front of the worldwide airline industry,” Huard said. “However, on the ground, we sometimes still perceive hesitation about the appropriateness of such developments”. H2-View News: Brazil backs 3GW green hydrogen project with major tax breaks ahead of FID

Solar developer Solatio plans to build the project in the Parnaíba Export Processing Zone (EPS) in the state of Piauí in three consecutive 1GW phases per year, with the first phase planned to come online in January 2029. The majority of the plant’s output is planned to be exported to European and Asian markets. H2 View understands offtakes agreements are still undergoing negotiations. The approval from the National Council of Export Processing Zones (CZPE) grants the project “substantial” tax exemptions for both the plant’s CAPEX and OPEX. Based on engineering and industrial plant design undertaken by Australia’s Worley, Solatio told [...]

H2-View News: Electrolyser technologies to receive a share of €960m Czech decarbonisation fund

Renewable equipment manufacturers in the Czech Republic will receive direct grants under the scheme, which is open to businesses of all sizes. Beneficiaries will include producers of electrolysers, carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) systems, and wind turbines, alongside support for the critical raw materials essential to these technologies. In an online statement, the Commission said the scheme is “necessary, appropriate and proportionate to accelerate the green transition and facilitate the development of certain economic activities, which are of importance for the implementation of the Clean Industrial Deal.” Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just, and Competitive Transition at the [...]

H2-View News: UK opposition party reverses course on Net Zero

Party leader Kemi Badenoch accused the UK’s Labour government of “mistaking press releases about GB Energy for actual solutions” and said plans for Net Zero by 2050 “are impossible”. “The real reason no one in their government is talking about a proper overall plan is that they know it would reveal just how catastrophic the actual costs will be for families, for businesses, and for our economy,” she said. Badenoch argued that sustainability costs would mean businesses paying much more than they already are for energy, so the country’s industrial base and manufacturing businesses would be further weakened. “It will [...]

H2-View News: Michelin backs AEM electrolysers to combine the best of PEM and alkaline technologies

Under a new four-year partnership with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Grenoble Alpes University, Grenoble Institute of Technology and Savoie Mont Blanc University, Michelin will participate in the development of AEM technology. The partnership will be led by AlcalHylab, the tenth joint research laboratory between Michelin and the CNRS. Jacques Maddaluno, Director of CNRS Chemistry said it’s another “illustration of the mutual trust between [the] two institutions.” Together, the partners aim to develop next-generation materials using abundant elements found in the Earth’s crust. Notably, AEM technology is valued for its elimination of precious metals in the electrolysis [...]

H2-View News: Levidian and Graphmatech partner to strengthen hydrogen infrastructure with graphene technology

Under a ‘strategic collaboration’ between the Swedish startup and UK-based Levidian, the partnership will combine the latter’s patented LOOP technology with Graphmatech’s flagship product, Aros Graphene. With LOOP, Levidian can produce hydrogen and high-quality graphene from methane without CO2 emissions, while Graphmatech enhances polymer materials for pipes, pressure vessels and other industrial applications, and they can reportedly reduce hydrogen leakage by up to 83%. Product development will be carried out in the UK and Sweden, with “significant scope for growth in the Middle East.” This comes after Levidian expanded its presence in the region, recently announcing plans to use flare [...]

H2-View News: Res Integra to install 4MW of Ohmium electrolysers at Sicilian petrochemical site

Res Integra, an industrial plant EPC firm, will install Ohmium electrolysers at an unnamed facility in the Siracusa industrial area in the east of the Italian island. Despite not naming any specific offtakers or use cases, the partners say hydrogen produced by the plant will be used to support “efforts to decarbonise regional industrial operations and mobility.” Ohmium is expected to start shipping its electrolysers this year, with no revealed plant start-up date. H2 View contacted Ohmium for confirmation on the plant’s start-up and offtake but received no response at the time of publishing. The firm offers modular 0.5MW PEM [...]

H2-View News: Black & Veatch to lead FEED study on Verdagy’s 9,000 tpa hydrogen plant

According to Verdagy’s online statement, Black & Veatch is set to complete FEED by May 2025 for the Texas-based initiative near the Gulf Coast, US. This will pave the way for an expected final investment decision (FID) in July 2025. The project will use Verdagy’s eDynamic electrolysers to produce hydrogen compliant with Europe’s Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) standards and 45V US Treasury requirements. Verdagy opened its electrolyser manufacturing facility in Silicon Valley, California, last October, and said production would begin this quarter. The plant manufactures the company’s 20MW electrolyser modules, which are based on single-cell architecture. Verdagy’s President, Rahul Bammi, said the [...]

H2-View News: Bulgaria plans hydrogen centre of excellence to support export ambitions

The country’s Ministry of Energy launched the plans under the H2Start Hydrogen Valley project last Friday (March 14), which aims to establish a centre of excellence for green hydrogen production in Stara Zagora. Backed by Horizon Europe funding, the Thracian University of Stara Zagora and the Bulgarian Association for Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Energy Storage will work with the Italian organisations the Polytechnic University of Turin and the Institute for Advanced Energy Technologies. The centre will focus on developing hydrogen production and usage technologies as Bulgaria looks to move away from its heavy fossil fuel consumption. It remains one of [...]
