H2-View News: Honda claims next-gen hydrogen fuel cell halves costs while trebling power density
The Japanese auto giant is independently developing the 150kW module to replace its current model, which is produced in a joint venture with General Motors (GM). Honda says the new PEM system’s manufacturing costs will be half those of the current model. It will also more than double its durability and increase its volumetric power density by “more than three times.” According to the firm’s specifications, the module will offer a maximum efficiency of 59.8% with a volumetric density of 0.5kW/litre and a total volume of 300 litres. Mass production of the new module is tabled for 2027. The company’s [...]

H2-View News: Clean hydrogen’s future lies in industry, not transport or heating, report says
The German environmental thinktank, in its Hydrogen Guiderails Report, said sectors where there are effective, alternative decarbonisation solutions should be excluded from hydrogen deployment strategies and public funding. It argues that hydrogen should not be used in building heating, road transport or electricity generation. Its justification for this is the expected 100 million tonnes of hydrogen consumption in 2024, which is predominantly produced with unabated fossil fuels – equating to around 2.5% of global emissions. “Only a symbolic volume of hydrogen, less than 1%, is produced from renewable electricity or with carbon capture and storage (CCS),” the report says. With [...]
H2-View News: 83% of European decision-makers say transport can be decarbonised without hydrogen
A new market study from IMI has revealed that 83% of decision-makers in Europe see transport decarbonisation as feasible without the use of hydrogen, despite ongoing industry interest. Approaching up to 300 decision-makers based in the UK, Germany and Italy, market research agency Censuswide carried out the analysis for IMI’s ‘The Road Ahead’ report. Overall, 83% of respondents said it would be feasible to decarbonise public transport without any use of hydrogen, although some of these answers were specified as “entirely feasible” and “somewhat feasible,” suggesting contradiction in the market. H2-View News: H2Global launches €2.5bn hydrogen import auction with regional and global lots
Hintco, the German Government-funded investment vehicle behind the scheme, said the supply-side auction is organised into five lots – four regional and one global. The regional auctions each have a minimum budget of €484m ($505m), focusing on purchasing hydrogen from North America, South America, Australia, Asia and Africa. These auctions will be “product-open lot,” allowing flexibility in the form of hydrogen supplied, be it pure hydrogen, ammonia or methanol. The global auction will offer a minimum of €567m ($591m) to import hydrogen as the final product from anywhere in the world. Hintco has said suppliers are free to choose preferred [...]
H2-View News: UK music festival to introduce stage powered entirely by hydrogen
Boomtown, which is set to take place in Hampshire on August 6-10, has said the HYDRO stage will form a key part of the 2025 event. The festival, which expects to attract over 65,000 attendees, has partnered with Hydrologiq to pull off the feat of delivering the clean-powered stage by using the firm’s HydrologiqOS platform. The stage will use hydrogen fuel cell generators to provide its power, with Hydrologiq managing the installation, remotely monitoring fuel levels and organising compliant operations on the ground. Luke Mitchell, the festival’s co-founder and creative director, said he was “unbelievably happy” to launch the stage. [...]

H2-View News: Fabrum partners with Sumitomo Australia to offer financing for liquid hydrogen systems
The containerised portable liquefiers, housed in 20-foot and 40-foot containers, are available in configurations producing either 35kg, 75kg, or 400kg of liquid hydrogen per day. Through this partnership, the New Zealand-based firm will expand its customer base into the neighbouring Australian market. This growth will be driven by a subsidiary of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, a specialist in importing and supplying equipment. “There is a growing shift towards innovation to support liquid hydrogen as a fuel for aircraft and trucks, coupled with demand for portable systems that can be easily deployed at airfields or truck stops,” explained Christopher Boyle, Fabrum’s Co-Founder [...]
H2-View News: €2.3bn Finnish scheme offers tax credits to hydrogen producers, electrolyser makers
The scheme under Finland’s state aid rules will provide tax credits to renewable fuel producers, industrial end-users and clean technology manufacturers. The first subsidy will support investments in renewable fuel production, as well as the storage of electricity and renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biofuels, and more. Tax credits will also be offered to industrial players looking to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 40% and/or reduce energy consumption by at least 20%. Electrolyser makers, alongside solar, wind, heat pump, battery and CCUS tech manufacturers, can claim the tax credit for new investments in production facilities. [...]
