H2-View News: Repsol cuts 2030 hydrogen capacity target by up to 60%
The company’s CEO, Josu Jon Imaz, told investors last week (February 20) that Repsol’s initial aim for 1.9GW of installed renewable hydrogen capacity by 2030 had been reduced to between 700MW and 1.2GW. H2 View understands that 350MW of hydrogen production will come from biomethane reforming at refineries to reduce the need for additional investment in electrolysis. Imaz shared concerns about the feasibility of hydrogen adoption in industries such as steel, cement, paper and chemicals, and therefore, Respol is “phasing down dramatically [its] hydrogen investment and expectation.” “We are reducing the installed capacity that we announced four years ago,” explained [...]
H2-View News: UK Government commits £200m funding for Grangemouth
The investment comes on top of the £100m Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal, delivered jointly with the Scottish Government, which will invest in local energy projects, and the £1.5m Project Willow, which is examining the site’s green energy and hydrogen potential, and will report in the spring. “We will grasp the opportunities at Grangemouth, work alongside partners to develop viable proposals and team up with business to get new industries off the ground,” Prime Minister Starmer said. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham welcomed the news after months of campaigning. “This needs to be the start not the end in delivering a real [...]
H2-View News: Wood to deliver engineering services for Zeevonk joint hydrogen project
Zeevonk, the joint venture between the two companies, will see 2GW of offshore wind capacity and a 50MWp floating offshore wind farm to power a large-scale electrolyser. The onshore electrolyser will be located in the Maasvlakte section of the Port of Rotterdam. UK-based Wood will conduct FEED work for the hydrogen facility over the next ten months and provide detailed cost estimates for the upcoming equipment, procurement and construction (EPC) process in Q2. Expected to be operational in 2029, the plant will be “designed to reach significant peak consumption.” Zeevonk will reportedly produce 1GW of hydrogen production capacity. Once complete, [...]
H2-View News: Analysis: Billions pledged, projects paused – what’s next for Australia’s hydrogen industry?
Australia’s hydrogen sector has encountered significant challenges over the past year, highlighted by the South Australian Government’s recent decision to reallocate funding from the Whyalla hydrogen project to support local steelworks. It came as the fourth project, with federal or state support, to be in the spotlight for apparent failures, opening the Labor government to stark, anti-hydrogen political opposition – just months away from a federal election. H2-View News: Work starts on hydrogen refuelling station at Teesside International Airport
Supported by £8m ($10.1m) of UK Government funding, the station will form part of the Tees Valley Hydrogen Transport Hub, which aims to bolster hydrogen production and use across mobility applications. Construction is expected to be completed this spring before installation and commissioning. The Element 2-built station is planned to support hydrogen trucks, vans and cars, as well as any airport vehicle trials. © Teesside International Airport As part of the hub funding, ULEMCo planned to develop hydrogen-powered airport ground vehicles such as aeroplane tow trucks and runway sweepers. Element 2 also had plans to build three other stations as [...]
H2-View News: Steelmaker Salzgitter breaks ground on 100MW hydrogen plant, urges policy support
German steelmaker Salzgitter has started construction of a 100MW electrolyser plant that will supply green hydrogen for its low-carbon steel production processes. EPC firm Andritz will install the 100MW HydrogenPro alkaline electrolysers at the Flachstahl site for start-up in 2026. H2-View News: Spain drops bp, Iberdrola and EDP from €1.2bn Hydrogen Valley Programme
With projects from EDP, bp and Iberdrola dropped, the remaining seven initiatives, comprising 11 production facilities, will deliver nearly 2.3GW of electrolysis capacity in Spain by 2028. According to the Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings (IDAE), project selection prioritised funding efficiency per megawatt of electrolysis capacity and considered technical, socio-economic and environmental factors such as financial solvency, company expertise and project maturity. Additional points were awarded by the government to those incorporating training programmes with universities or vocational centres and investments in R&D and innovation. As a result, projects like Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Enagás will receive up [...]
H2-View News: Iveco delivers hydrogen trucks to BMW in EU-backed deployment
The S-eWay Fuel Cell heavy-duty trucks will be used by BMW to transport parts between Nuremberg, Landsberg and Leipzig. Two new refuelling stations, set up by TotalEnergies-Air Liquide joint venture TEAL Mobility in Leipzig and Homersdorf, will support the deployment. Both stations offer 350 and 700 bar fuelling. Each truck offers up to 800km of range on one 70kg hydrogen fill and can be refuelled in under 20 minutes. The S-eWay trucks were developed under Iveco’s former joint venture (JV) with the now-bankrupt Nikola. Iveco took full ownership of the JV’s assets in 2023. Michael Nikolaides, BMW’s Head of Production [...]
H2-View News: ScottishPower to assess feasibility of green hydrogen production plant at Shoreham Port
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two will conduct a feasibility study throughout the coming year, according to local reports. Iberdrola-owned ScottishPower has yet to disclose the plant’s operational timeline or the expected electrolysis capacity. Mark Bradley, Hydrogen Director at ScottishPower, explained that the company is working with Shoreham Port to “investigate how green hydrogen could help to decarbonise the port.” Tom Willis, Chief Executive at Shoreham Port added, “Working in partnership with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and delivered by Innovate UK, the Shoreham Port Industrial Cluster will shortly be publishing our Local Industrial [...]
H2-View News: Air Liquide stays measured on clean hydrogen as market realities set in
Air Liquide welcomes the wave of reality crashing over clean hydrogen as it targets industrial decarbonisation opportunities. That was the message from CEO François Jackow during the French industrial gas major’s 2024 results, where it reported net profits of €3.3bn ($3.45bn).
