The Hydrogen Council, the world’s largest and only CEO-led global alliance comprising leading businesses and investors in hydrogen, is recruiting a highly motivated Senior Research Officer to contribute to its mission.

We are looking for a highly organized, innovative and entrepreneurial colleague with deep understanding of hydrogen, technical mastery of data, strong membership service mindset and proven ability to work seamlessly in international multi-stakeholder environments.

As the Senior Research Officer, you will report to the Head of Research and work closely with the Research team of the Hydrogen Council as well as our global team currently based out of Spain, UK, Belgium and Germany, our members, partners and vendors.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the development of Hydrogen Council Compass Report and other market insights
  • Evaluate global market dynamics, policy drivers, and the cost competitiveness of clean hydrogen pathways across regions
  • Develop and enhance robust quantitative and qualitative research methodologies tailored to hydrogen market analysis, technology assessment, and policy evaluation
  • Build structured analytical frameworks for cost-curve modelling, scenario analysis, data validation, and cross-regional benchmarking.
  • Maintain methodological integrity, consistency, and scientific rigor across all research outputs.
  • Identify emerging topics for the research work of the Council by engaging with members to shape the scope and the narrative of research projects
  • Partner with Hydrogen Council members and stakeholders across the industry to craft insights
  • Distil technical complexity and findings to provide actionable recommendations for diverse audiences including policymakers and C-level executives
  • Evaluate hydrogen use cases across industry (e.g., refining, ammonia, steel), transport (e.g., heavy-duty mobility, shipping, aviation), power generation, etc.
  • Leverage necessary tools to provide industry-leading perspective
  • Provide support to the Policy, Communications, Marketplace teams of the Hydrogen Council and collaborate with other relevant work streams as needed.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience: 8-10 years of relevant experience
  • Education: University degree with engineering background.
  • Languages: Full professional proficiency in English.
  • Technical proficiency: Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex issues. Experience with robust models and forecasting tools to assess hydrogen demand, supply, and infrastructure needs under various scenarios and understanding of energy-related data structures, such as time series aggregation.
  • Issue knowledge: Excellent knowledge of the energy sector. Understanding of the role of hydrogen in the future energy mix and Power-to-X technologies and overall state of the hydrogen industry. Demonstrated knowledge of hydrogen production, infrastructure, and end-use technologies across sectors.
    • We strongly welcome candidates with specific hydrogen expertise in the Americas, Asia and/or the Middle East.
  • Team player: Collaborative, adaptable, and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and members to achieve shared objectives.
  • Advanced communications and presentation design skills: Proven ability to distil actionable insights from complex data sets and to express ideas clearly and succinctly. Proven capacity to draft reports and experience in data visualisation is a strong plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail: Ability to work independently and in a structured way, with great attention to detail. Solution-oriented approach, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Professional conduct: Diplomacy, discretion, tact and ability to represent the Council and its leadership towards members as well as external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural, and hybrid work environment. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively across different time zones and adapt to varying work requirements. 
  • Service mindset: Strong fit for a membership-based organization with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a member-driven, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Flexibility: Given the Council’s global nature with member companies across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, reasonable flexibility is required for accommodating meeting times and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally, depending on the candidate’s location.

  • Contract type: full-time employee

  • Remuneration: competitive, based on experience
  • Location: hybrid position, with the ability to travel to Brussels and work with the Hydrogen Council team in person on agreed occasions.
