BCTN and Vos Transport Group both signed orders for zepp’s hydrogen-electric truck tractors, which the company says will be the ‘world’s first’ hydrogen-powered zero-emission tractor unit that can tow any trailer under current European regulations.
Dubbed the DREAMH2AUL project, which is currently under development, according to zepp, the trucks will have a range of more than 600km (372 miles), using its zepp.x150 fuel cell system. The company says the system offers high efficiency and ‘extremely high’ power density, leaving space for hydrogen storage and a sleeping cabin.
H2 View understands the hydrogen powertrain will be installed in two N3 tractor units, which will be used by Vos Transport and BCTN for city distribution, regional transport, and international long-distance transport.
Set to be delivered by the end of 2023, TNO, the Netherlands Organisations for Applied Scientific Research, will compare the performance of the trucks with alternatives, with the partners hoping to promote the roll-out of sustainable road transport.
Jules Menheere, Director of Vos, commented, “Especially in these challenging times, it is important to continue investing in order to realise our sustainability ambitions. We should not slow down now, but rather set a good example.”
H2 View’s Hydrogen Mobility Snap Summit – November 29
With the mobility pillar consistently a hot topic for hydrogen markets and arguably the most anticipated and relatable application of the energy transition, H2 View stages a Mobility Snap Summit this November to summarise the progress made in 2022 and look ahead to what’s still to come.
Infrastructure challenges remain. Questions linger over policy and implementation. Many wonder which strand of the transport sector will blaze the trail in hydrogen power first, and likewise which region. There are clear challenges ahead, yet considerable progress made in 2022 and bright spots ahead in 2023 and beyond.
Join H2 View this November for a half-day online event dedicated to unearthing the progress made, dissecting the challenges to be met and establishing the state-of-play across mobility as 2023 approaches. Find more information here.
Premium Subscribers to H2 View have access to this event as part of their subscription package; non-subscribers can secure access to the event with a delegate ticket ($99). All delegates can access the event on-demand from 1st December.
