Following multiple purchase orders, Ballard will deliver the solution this year, whilst the hydrogen-powered single and double-decker buses are expected to enter services in 2025.

H2 View understands that the vehicles will be deployed in the UK and Germany. Just last year (2023), Wrightbus agreed to provide 54 buses to UK-based Go-Ahead Group following a £30m ($37.8m) investment.

“We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with Wrightbus and support their deployment of an increasing volume of hydrogen-powered transit buses across the UK and Europe,” explained Oben Uluc, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing EMEA.

“We are seeing broader market acceptance of fuel cell buses by European transit operators seeking to decarbonise their operations with a technology approach that enables long-range, fast refuelling and scalable refuelling infrastructure.”

Earlier this month (April), Ballard announced it would supply 1,000 hydrogen fuel cell units to Solaris Bus & Coach under a new long-term supply agreement (LTSA).

Existing orders total around 300 fuel cell engines and now the LTSA adds a new supply commitment for an “incremental” 700 fuel cell systems – the largest in Ballard’s history.
