Tyczka Hydrogen expands into Austria with MPreis Hydrogen acquisition

The German hydrogen producer purchased MPreis Hydrogen for an undisclosed amount, which will see its whole team transferred over to Tyczka.

The Völs site, which was originally established by the food retailer, features a Sunfire alkaline electrolyser, a 350-bar refuelling station, and a trailer filling station, designed to serve the company’s logistics fleet and local bakery operations.

Tyczka intends to continue supplying MPreis while further developing the site to strengthen cross-border hydrogen mobility. Mpreis powered Austria’s first hydrogen truck via its Völs facility, according to the board member, David Mölk.

The deal expands Tyczka’s footprint beyond Germany and into Austria.

“With the takeover, we reach another milestone in our business development,” explained Thomas Zorn, Managing Director of Tyczka Hydrogen.

“We are investing specifically in the expansion of an independent and reliable hydrogen supply. Together with the site team and our partners, we will further develop and strategically expand our hydrogen activities – especially in the direction of Austria and northern Italy.”

Tyczka already has stakes in Hy2B Wasserstoff, an electrolysis plant in Bavaria, Germany, and is developing a hydrogen hub in Schweinfurt, which also features electrolysis and trailer filling.

“With the now completed takeover and the continuous expansion of these sites, a powerful, regionally anchored production network for green hydrogen is being created,” the firm said in a statement.

“[We aim to] further increase the security of supply and secure cross-border mobility solutions in the long term.”

Tyczka emphasised that while the deal has been agreed in principle, it’s still awaiting completion of a few remaining formalities before it officially closes, which is expected in a “timely manner.”
