Thyssenkrupp Nucera confirmed as supplier for Moeve’s 300MW Spanish project

The German electrolyser major has confirmed it was awarded a contract by the Spanish energy firm, after the project reached final investment decision earlier this month

Thyssenkrupp Nucera said the engineering, procurement, fabrication and supply contract is valued “in the low three-digit million-euro range”.

It will encompass the installation of 300MW of electrolysers at the first phase of the Andalusian green hydrogen valley in Huelva, named Onuba. Moeve has also reserved the option to expand the site’s capacity by 100MW, subject to grid availability and board approval.

It comes after the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) was named as the preferred supplier for the project in 2024.

The hydrogen valley is planned to host 2GW of production capacity by 2030 across the Huelva site and a second location, to produce up to 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

The contract will be welcome news for the firm which has said it will need to cut costs and reallocate resources in its green hydrogen after as orders and sales fall.

In February, Thyssenkrupp Nucera said its hydrogen-related order backlog fell to €186m ($214m), with sales down to €77m ($88.7m) in Q1.

It has heavily backed green hydrogen, opening a manufacturing facility for its solid oxide electrolyser stacks in May 2025, and acquiring technology from insolvent Danish electrolyser firm Green Hydrogen Systems in September.

Recently, the OEM joined calls for policy support from the EU for electrolyser manufacturers. Alongside five competitors, it launched a coalition calling for a relaxation of the bloc’s hydrogen production rules and trade protection measures in publicly funded projects.
