Following certification of its EX425D – a 1MW PEM electrolyser capable of producing 425kg of green hydrogen per day – Plug can commercially sell electrolyser systems in the Korean market.

As part of the certification process, the Korean Gas Safety (KGS) Corporation approved Plug’s Rochester Gigafactory in the US for electrolyser stack production, along with Plug partner Alpha ECC’s manufacturing facility in Vietnam for system production and assembly.

KGS awarded the Standard AH271 for Facility/Technical/Inspection Code for Manufacture of Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Generator to Plug Power.

It is understood the achievement was accomplished via Plug’s collaboration with SK E&S, the SK Plug HyVerse project. The joint venture (JV) is designed to promote the supply and localisation of PEM electrolysers for green hydrogen projects.

Plug’s CEO, Andy Marsh, claimed the certification will support decarbonisation goals in Korea. “As the first company to receive this certification and over five decades of operational expertise backing our PEM stack technology, we are in a unique position as the first mover for PEM electrolysers in the Korean market,” he added.

The company’s Rochester facility manufactured 122MW of PEM electrolyser stacks for its customers in the first quarter of 2023, which, at the time, was a record for Plug.
