Solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology is reportedly 30% more efficient than PEM and alkaline technologies according to Ceres, but true cost competitiveness could be realised at large-scale green ammonia plants.

Chandra Macauley, Ceres’ Principal Product Applications Specialist, claimed the company’s technology will be “transformative” for the cost of hydrogen-based ammonia.
