Linde Engineering will work closely with ITM as the EPC integrator, supporting plans to begin operating the electrolyser in 2027.

“Shell is a leading global energy company, and we are proud they have selected us for this prestigious project,” claimed Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM Power.

“The performance of our latest generation electrolyser stacks in the Refhyne I plant played an important role in Shell proceeding to FID, as did their extensive due diligence on our technology and our capability to deliver this large-scale commercial project.”

Shell reserved 100MW of ITM Power’s PEM electrolyser stacks in December (2023), with the expectation that they will be manufactured between 2025 and 2026.

According to Shell, the Refhyne project was “enabled” by policies including the EU’s binding green hydrogen usage targets and the German Government’s regulatory framework.
