Located on the A555 in the industrial region of the city, the station will serve in a strategic location just off a direct Cologne to Bonn route, adding to further hydrogen stations in Cologne-Frechen and at Cologne-Bonn Airport.

Having received ‘at least’ €950,000 ($965,255) from the National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP) from the German Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV), for the construction of the station, H2 MOBILITY says the station uses ‘state-of-the-art’ technology from Linde.

It is hoped the station will further offer the opportunity to decarbonise transport with hydrogen in the region, while offering short refuelling times and longer ranges than electric vehicles.

In 2020, the German joint venture, H2 MOBILITY Deutschland announced ambitious goals of installing 400 hydrogen stations in Germany by the late 2020s.
