The British company will provide awareness, safety and incident response training to employees at Anglo American’s Mogalakwena PGM mine in South Africa.
The training will enable Anglo American to implement innovative hydrogen technology safely in support of corporate and national decarbonisation goals across all operations by 2040.
With the necessary training, key members of staff will be permitted to carry out operations supporting hydrogen infrastructure safely and have the best possible preparation to resolve a real incident safely and efficiently.
Rachel White, Global President Clean Energy and Environmental Solutions at Ricardo, said, “Hydrogen can help organisations and countries achieve a low carbon future and deliver economic growth and green jobs.
“But it is important to implement this emerging technology safely and Ricardo has a proven track record supporting clients across the hydrogen value chain.”
Last year, Anglo American unveiled a prototype of the ‘world’s largest’ hydrogen-powered mine haulage truck to be utilised in the Mogalakwena mine.
The 2MW hydrogen-battery hybrid truck, generating more power than its diesel predecessor and capable of carrying a 920-tonne payload, is part of Anglo American’s nuGen™ Zero Emissions Haulage Solution (ZEHS).
It is believed nuGen™ provides a fully integrated green hydrogen system, consisting of production, fuelling and haulage system, with green hydrogen also to be produced at the mine site.
