Queensland seeks AUD $66m from Fortescue over cancelled hydrogen project

The Queensland government is taking legal action to recoup AUD $66m ($42.8m) of funding from mining major Fortescue after it scrapped a green hydrogen project in the state, according to reports.

In July, the firm axed its 50MW green hydrogen project in Gladstone, which had reached final investment decision in 2023, due to it being “no longer needed” to test its self-developed electrolysis technology.
